The opening of Embrace reminds me a lot of Cerberus. The dry down really evolves in to something else, some musky goodness. Nice shave this morning. I think most of my razors are due for a touch up at this point.

  • Prep: House of Mammoth Embrace Doppio Bath Soap
  • Brush: Summer Break Soaps Crofton 26mm AP MiG
  • Razor: Feather DX Kamisori
  • Blade: Proline (5)
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Massacre of the Innocents - Soap
  • Alum: Osma Luxury Alum
  • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Massacre of the Innocents - Aftershave Splash
  • Fragrance: Parfums de Marley - Herod - Eau de Parfum

This soap is like brownie batter. It works great, but this is easily the softest Milksteak I've ever seen. Really digging this MiG, too.

One of my favorite dupe scents. Killed a tub of this but still have plenty of splash to enjoy.

[–] walden 4 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Have you noticed that different scents are firmer/softer with milksteak, more so than other bases? I think I have, but it could also just be age of the soaps.

[–] InfernalInternal 3 points 2 years ago

Now that you mention it, I'd say yes. At least a wider range of consistencies. This tub is one of the newer one with the batch number sticker. I left it open for a couple days and it didn't really make a notable difference. I just have to skip tub loading this one for now. Sad.

Most notably with Opulence. It's like a different product

You just made it in time for the first half of the year!

Angloitalohelveticogerman Shave

A Wade & Butcher Celebrated Fine India Steel Razor with original horn scales leaning against a stick of Sir Irisch Moos soap and a bottle of Swiss Pitralon splash next to a Zenith B21 brush

  • Razor: Wade & Butcher Celebrated Fine India Steel Razor -13/16 near wedge with barber's notch
  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Lather: Sir Irisch Moos
  • Aftershave: Pitralon Swiss version

Exciting first SOTD on our shiny new Lemmy instance. This one is a bit of a copy of an SOTD by @timbuktu@sueden.social and as soon as (or if, we'll see) federation gets turned on this instance, he'll even be able to get a ping for credit.

I'm very curious where this experiment will lead, and whatever the outcome, I'm happy we're trying this hobby outside of big social.

To the shave: This Wade & Butcher is pure gold. I don't use it very often even though it's a fantastic razor because I try to preserve its condition. That's probably dumb.

As always:

Irisch Moos ++; Pitralon ++;

Question: What do we think about embedding pictures like I just did. Yay or nay?

[–] iamsms 5 points 2 years ago

I dig this embedded pictures thing in sotd threads. saves me one click.

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666 3 points 2 years ago

Yay! This Lemmy thing is better than reddit!

[–] merikus 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I like it personally! It’s a cool added element to a post.

[–] djundjila 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not too r/wicked_edge? I also like it, but I wonder if it becomes overwhelming if many do it.

By the way, have you figured out how to username mention? @merikus@wetshaving.social seems a bit cumbersome @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social @djundjila@wetshaving.social

[–] merikus 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I wonder if I can just @iamsms?

[–] merikus 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] merikus 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I guess all that works is @iamsms@sub.WetShaving.social.

[–] djundjila 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

no, it's worse, you start tying the @beginningofthename, wait for about 5 seconds, and it'll autocomplete, but like a full on markdown link like so [@merikus@wetshaving.social](https://wetshaving.social/users/merikus)

[–] merikus 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh wow. So like @iamsms@sub.wetshaving.social? Happy it’s possible, but that is cumbersome. At least you can edit the text in the markdown, to shorten it for folks.

[–] djundjila 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

yup. Not sure whether the mentions get federated, though. Let me ping your mastodon and see @merikus@wetshaving.social

any mentions on the mastodon?

[–] merikus 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] djundjila 1 points 2 years ago

yeah, this mentioning business doesn't seem to be compatible. oh well.

I shaved around 10 hours ago and it's still smooth as baby's arm.

  • Brush: Moar Boar!!!
  • Razor: Weck Sextoblade
  • Blade: Kismet
  • Lather: Noble Otter - The Noir et Vanille
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - The Noir et Vanille Splash
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - The Noir et Vanille Balm

If I'm honest I completely screwed the pooch with the lather on this shave. I loaded a ton of soap into the Moar Boar, and then put too much water into it completely ruining the nice thick lather that was forming.

I powered through anyway, and managed to shave with the weck, while keeping all the blood on the inside, so I'll call it a win anyway.

  • Brush: Simpsons Chubby 2 Jade 27mm HMW

  • Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 472 13/16" Full Hollow Square Point (Straight Shave 250)

  • Lather: Martin de Candre - Fougère - Soap

  • Post Shave: Thayers - Rose - Toner

  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - Mousse Illuminee - Aftershave

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I continue to play with technique on these 3-pass straight shaves, and today's lather was just perfect. For me, MdC builds into a lighter lather which, if loaded heavily, can be adjusted by painting in some water. The resulting lather is very slick and either falls off the razor [ straight in this case, so boom shakalaka ], or just slides off with a little water. And the scent! Just wonderful.

Mousse Illuminee has a slightly darker, heavier scent but complements MdC really well. I do wonder why the correct spelling (illuminée) is not used. I've noticed that both Rogue Perfumery and Zingari Man use the same labeling. This sort of thing bothers me, but, clearly, there are more important things to focus on.

[–] djundjila 4 points 2 years ago

Friodur 473;

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Always happy to hear from a good boom shakalaka 😃

As for Mousse Illuminée, you will notice that on the label, it's written in uppercase. In uppercase, you can drop the accents, even though that's quite old school. But when written in lower case, it needs the accent (like I've done above).

[–] gcgallant 2 points 2 years ago

In uppercase, you can drop the accents, even though that’s quite old school.

I was unaware of that. My knowledge of French comes mostly from formal education. I guess I wasn't paying attention in class that day. Thank you!
