These 2 screenshots are 1 minute apart, after leaving the tab open on the Steam web browser.

I was showing a friend that they started putting banner ads between comments now, and then more popped up. Reminds me of ROM sites in the early 2000s.

I can't imagine anyone EVER going "Hmmm, I bet people would appreciate autosave being disabled by default to save a miniscule amount of storage space, we shouldn't even prompt the player to choose during setup" I just spent like 3 hours in a new map and it just crashed. It's all gone. I am devastated. I will now cry myself to sleep.

The discovery of this ancient synthetic pigment highlights the impressive artistry of Rome’s imperial era.

The tagline implies credit to Rome when it's called "Egyptian Blue," but says this deep in the article:

Unlike yellow and red ocher, Egyptian blue is a synthetic color achieved by heating a mixture of limestone, chemical compounds, and copper-containing minerals. Its earliest production and use dates back over 5,000 years ago to ancient Egypt; in Roman times, the pigment was produced in southern Italy. In fact, it’s the oldest synthetically-made color known to scientists. Archaeologists typically discover the ancient remnants of Egyptian blue pigment in the form of powder or tiny spheres, but the rarity of the recent specimen lies in its size: a whopping 5.29 pounds (2.4 kilograms).

Actually infuriating things are so far outside of the purpose of this community. When I want to read about the terrible things happening in the world, I go read about them. When I'm trying to take a break and refresh my mind, it is aggravating that I'm still forced to view these issues in my fun communities.

If we aren't going to outright forbid it, could we maybe at least enforce a tag, something like [RI] for really infuriating stuff so that it could be more easily filtered out?

The US is actually going to implement a nationwide abortion ban and the measures for how it's going to be handled are already in the works. This bill, which I link to here: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolution/7/text , seems ok at first glance and only seems to want to implement nationwide healthcare centers for women. But when you actually look at what these Pro Women's Healthcare Centers are and mean to offer, it becomes really clear what's going on.

On the first page of the PDF or booklet that appear when you search for the healthcare centers it is clear that they are supported by pro-life organisations and hold extreme pro-life values. And when you read the (very short) booklet it states their values and services that are to be provided. Among them is a requirement for "Abortion Pill Reversal" and encouragement for "Sterilization Reversal". The last page clearly states their values, where among them it states that:

"Abortion is not women's healthcare, because of the damage it causes to women's physical and emotional health and the destruction of unborn life, many of whom are females. Abortion is usually something women turn to when they feel they do not have another choice. This is a tragedy and the opposite of choice and empowerment."

And it goes on to list similiar values. The bill to implement these healthcare centers states that:

"That the House of Representatives—

(1) expresses its support for women nationwide to have access to comprehensive, convenient, compassionate, life-affirming, high-quality health care; and

(2) recognizes the high standards established by Pro Women’s Healthcare Centers consortium as standards worth implementing nationwide."

This means that the values that these Pro Women’s Healthcare Centers have are to be set as standards nationwide.

I asked Chat-GPT aboout Elon's salute, just for fun, and it replied it could not analyse pictures and I needed to describe it to him. I had pictures analysed before, even traslating and explaining a cartoon joke. I tought it could be caused by the .webp format. So I retried the joke image and it worked fine. I uploaded a png of Elon and it went wrong. Can others repeat the experience or was it just a fluke? I am not angry just let down a little.

I mean its not korea and I really doubt pop is the most popular genre in the local area.

The per 100g price makes it seem like the 1kg (bottom) item is cheaper than the 2kg one.

I wonder how many people are baited into getting the more expensive item (by weight).

I have a close friend that I've known 20 years who became obsessed with right-wing politics. even though I'm liberal, I don't make it my entire personality and life. But anyway... I was talking to him this morning casually like friends do.

Me: "Hey man. Do you have off today for MLK day?" Friend: "No, I have to work today." Me: "Damn, sorry to hear. I have off today since it's a company holiday." Friend: "Yeah, I work for a living. Guess that's the difference me and people who live in an ivory tower." Me: "Uhh I work for a living too. Idk why you're acting like I don't?" Friend: "I didn't mean you specifically. But you’re off and I’m not so it shows that you get to relax at least. You should be able to handle the truth lol. There's no shame in admitting that I'm a harder worker than everyone else. you shouldn't be so sensitive"

Honestly, he's not unique, either. I've met so many people who are conservative, obsessed with right-wing stuff, and they're all like this. They act like they're special and the whole world is lazy, "no one wants to work anymore" attitude.

I can't blame the customer here. Ya, that's the USB in the Ethernet port.

Seriously, the amount of times this happened to me is astounding.

Pull up a YouTube video. Adjust the volume at the start. After playing for a while, I want to skip forward 5 seconds, so I press the right arrow. The video does not skip forward, so I press it again. I press it again, and in 4 seconds, I reach maxiumum volume.

Only at this point do I realize that, ah, this is part where YouTube interprets my right arrow as volume adjustment again, and I have to click on the play button or on the video itself to pause and play again, and only then will the right (and left) arrows mean what I think they mean.

I have never, ever - EVER wanted to use right arrow as volume up and left arrow as volume down for a YouTube video. not a single time in (almost) 20 years! And it does not even make sense from a usability standpoint, since the up and down arrows are already adjusting the volume up and down at all times, regardless of which part of the player is "active" (it should always be the play button. Fucking always).

The solution would be so simple, it hurts. Have the left and right arrows always mean 5 seconds backwards and forwards, as the up and down arrows already mean volume up and down. There is absolutely no need to switch the action of the left and right arrow, depending on if you clicked on the volume adjustment first. Oh well, chalk it up to "things I will never understand".

So the lady made us wait for a few minutes while my daughter, who is 14 and hasn't been on a plane since she was 4, started getting freaked out. Then she finally got her bag and opened it and searched it very thoroughly while asking us about whether or not she had any sharp objects.

She dresses punky despite loving Hello Kitty and she packed some spiked jewelry, so we thought maybe that was it.

It was not.

It was her deodorant.

The lady pulled out her deodorant, took it over to some special station where she did some sort of chemical analysis, and then gave it back and told us to zip up her case and leave.

Thanks for protecting the airport from dangerous deodorant, TSA! Great job!

This has been annoying me for awhile but as long as their are subtitles its seems amazon considers the media in your language and my eyesight is just to crappy to be able to enjoy media that way exculsively (ironically I put them on because of difficulty hearing and between the two I can keep track. Its not always necessary now just some films if there is background noise in a certain way or a soft talker). Anyway I really wish they had an option to only show options in your audio language even if dubbed. Now that I think of it this is not even the most annoying thing. Would be great to tell it to not show me options for subscriptions I have not integrated with it.
