Who'd a thunk. The former cop still smells like bacon. ACAB

No one in NYC likes him other than landlords. Republicans hate him because he's black. Leftists hate him because he's a landlord cop who doesn't give a shit about anyone but himself.

Good riddance, the next in line is an actual leftist if he steps down

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 39 points 2 months ago (1 children)

the next in line is an actual leftist if he steps down

I guess that means he won't step down. :(

I couldn't possibly imagine they'd be "allowed" to take over any actual control if they are a leftist and aren't beholden to the ownership class. We don't get to have nice things in government.

"I cannot tell you how much I start the day with telling my team we've got to follow the law," he told reporters at the time.

Yeh. You never did that Mayor lmao.

[–] kellyaster@lemmy.world 55 points 2 months ago (2 children)

What a bizarre claim to make. Does he actually think that's how honest people start their day?

[–] nulluser@programming.dev 45 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

He doesn't have a clue what honest people do. He's like Vance buying doughnuts for the first time in his life. "Follow the law, I guess, or whatever makes sense."

[–] brbposting@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How long have you been following the law?

OK.

How about you, how long have you been following the law?

Totally normal thing to do. Like when my boss accused me of showing up to work drunk, I told him, "I start every morning telling my people 'hey, I'm going to work not drunk today'"

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That would be like me at a house party saying "Hey man, great party! Lots of people here, great selection of booze, I didn't shit in the closet, and are those cocktail weinee's???"

One of those things shouldn't need to be said.....

[–] frezik@midwest.social 5 points 2 months ago

Or back on the Other Site /r/legaladvice. When a post started out with "just for the record, I'm not a pedophile", you knew it was gonna be good popcorn.

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's... Hey sir (I use that term lightly) this isn't a thing you should have to tell people you shouldn't give off the vibe or hire people who wouldn't.

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 22 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You never had morning meetings at your retail job where the pep talk was "Let's get out there and do our best, and whatever you do, guys, remember not to violate the law today"?

yooooo, he gave Sean "Diddy" Combs the key to NYC less than a year ago. Diddy got arrested by the Feds earlier this month and denied bail twice. I wonder if they are connected somehow.

[–] tacosplease@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They are not related. Adams was doing more traditional political corruption - demanding $20k to meet with someone, secretly advocating for foreign governments, etc.

[–] BackOnMyBS@lemmy.autism.place 18 points 2 months ago (1 children)

dons aluminum foil hat

yeah, but what if Diddy was in on some international shit? he had tapes on all sorts of people. those tapes could be used as blackmail by foreign powers to manipulate politicians. check this 7:16 min interview of Gene Deal out.

doffs aluminum foil hat

but you're right. they're completely separate issues.

[–] AngryCommieKender@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Upvoted for usage of the word "doffs."

[–] Jackcooper@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

TIL doff is the opposite of don

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

To be fair it's just "on" and "off" with the D to make it sexy

[–] PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Stupid sexy grammatically correct Flanders...

[–] modifier@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 months ago

I hope they searched him thoroughly for that key.

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 51 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The FBI seized Adams' electronic devices as part of an investigation into whether his 2021 mayoral campaign's fundraising.

That's some expert journalism right there.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Expert editing.

That's one of the primary functions of the editor. Depending on the outfit though, editorial oversight may not be required or even a thing really. Publishing approval may be from the writer directly, which also likely means no one else read over it after it was completed to find easily avoidable issues from rephrasing and reorganizing sentences.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Sentances need better, organizing, editor no.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

That's literally what the editing does.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I don't see the problem. Did his 2021 mayoral campaign's fundraising or did his 2021 mayoral campaign's not fundraising?

It's goodly perfection English!

Okay, as someone who's never set foot in New York City, is it really that difficult for them to elect a mayor who's not a giant hunk of fuck?

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It's NYC. Everyone is a giant hunk of fuck.

He's better then Rudy Ghoulani, but I'm glad to see the shittiest person to hold that office isn't the bare minimum a moderate has to beat to be above the law.

[–] Draegur@lemm.ee 13 points 2 months ago

Andrew Yang would have been better.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Does he stay mayor if he is convicted? I know the system is slow enough it probably won't matter, just curious.

Also, about damn time. Adams sucks and is obviously corrupt.

[–] philz@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Lock him up

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 9 points 2 months ago

Saw that trainwreck coming a mile away.
