Dude, I'm also an atheist and very vocal about it. Don't be that kind of atheist. Pick your battles and realize that trying to eliminate religious words from non-religious applications is not one you're going to win. This is really no different from atheists who refuse to do things like exclaim, "Jesus Christ!" when they stub their toe or are super frustrated or whatever as if the words have some sort of power.

As someone who thinks there is no such thing as the supernatural, maybe don't give words so much power?

5 minutes of time

Dear god, your hands must be raw! 20 seconds is enough.

and pray that it contains a low level of PFAS.

I think you're fucked on that last part, because the levels just keep increasing, but the rest of it is good advice.

That has nothing to do with the subject of this article whatsoever, which is about how the Taliban do not see women as human.

So how is that relevant?

You don't even need to leave Afghanistan. Afghanistan before the Soviets invaded was a very different place.

Good news!

She even casually flips her hair (very slowly, and like someone with motor skills issues).

I feel sorry for the people over there who will lose their jobs because of it, but considering I literally cannot understand them half the time I call them, AI would not be all that less frustrating. I hate AI, but outsourcing call centers to countries where people have accents so heavy you can't understand them even though they're speaking English (over low-quality connections to boot) is ridiculous.

Wouldn't that be trivial to avoid with an RFID? Check the RFID when the product comes in, keep it in a database until someone pays for it. If it leaves before it's paid for, alert security.

You don't know why I brought up Israel when you brought up Hamas? Because they're fighting each other right now and Israel is using it as an excuse to cause a genocide which has done far more harm to Palestinian women than Hamas could have ever hoped to have done.

Why did you bring up Hamas? And if you're going to say, "because they're Muslims," why those Muslims?

Exactly the same thing in the U.S. as per our constitution.

The 13th Amendment:

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

This almost makes me want to do Riker again, but I'm not ready because they aren't losing enough. This deserves it though.

The rich are not the only ones losing homes at this point by any means. This was not a wealthy neighborhood:

Daron's next-door neighbour at house 281, Dillon Akers, was at work at a donut stand in the Topanga mall - about 40 miles away - as smoke started filling their neighbourhood.

Since the election, Trump has promised to immediately impose a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian imports, along with increasing existing tariffs on Chinese imports by 10%. On the campaign trail, Trump said he would put tariffs of 10% to 20% on all imports.

Economists widely agree that prices will increase with tariffs. Though the policy is meant to encourage American companies to produce their goods domestically, the global supply chain has become so entangled and interconnected that for many companies, the most simple thing will be to pass the cost of tariffs on to consumers – executives from multiple companies, including Walmart, Columbia Sportswear and AutoZone, have said they will do as much.

In a November Harris/Guardian poll, nearly half (44%) of respondents said they were planning purchases before Trump entering office, while nearly two-thirds (62%) said they were at least adjusting their financial plans for next year.

It's like a run on the banks, except it's a run on the Walmarts.

"You're really out to lunch! Look at this world you've cooked up! And you expect to take over another universe?"

The local TV stations have not been much help either. I guess there's nothing to know? You'd think there would be some local news that two TV stations and a newspaper might think about covering.

I was literally listening to "Hold On, I'm Comin'" when I saw this headline. Crazy coincidence.

Edit: If you want to see one hell of a live performance, check those two at the height of their careers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fowldx4hRtI

(Mods: that auto-suggested title is different from the one on on the page itself, but it's honestly a better headline in terms of the article's contents. Let me know if i need to change it.)

On Thursday, Rep. Andy Harris told Newsmax that money for wildfire aid isn’t a priority for Republicans because “we just put more money into FEMA before we left for the Christmas holidays,” and the Maryland Republican claimed that Los Angeles “mishandled the fire department so egregiously that they ought to bear some of the burden for that rebuilding.”

I love finding out a song by a famous artist wasn't original to them. Especially when that famous artist is also a famous asshole.

I realize it must seem weird that I am sharing this local news story, but the reason I am sharing it is the part at the end, something that I have really been dreading:

After he was arrested Obua was treated at a local hospital. While he was there he spoke with a nurse and told her that there was a “multimillion-dollar money scam going on between a couple of doctors in the same office as the victim,” court records state. “He made reference to the CEO that was shot and killed most recently in New York City and stated that this situation was very similar.”

I absolutely sympathize with what Luigi Mangione did, but I have been worried since it happened that it would spur copycats who might not be so discerning or might hit a target that (probably) does not deserve it.

Thankfully, in this case, the doctor was not killed.

For what it's worth, reviews of the doctor seem to be either he's amazing or he's terrible, but nothing about money.
