2023,06,11

  • Prep: Splashing hot water
  • Brush: SHD badger
  • Razor: Stirling (DE3P2S) with the OpenComb plate
  • Blade: Gillette Nacet
  • Lather: Proraso Sensitive shaving cream (tube)
  • Post Shave: Lucky Tiger

What can I say, this was a simple evening (00:10 am) shave. The Stirling has more blade feel than any other safety razor I own, but I wouldn't call it extreme. It's my travel razor, and since I'm going to be traveling next week I thought I'd take it for a spin and make sure I'm all good.

  • Brush: Declaration Grooming B8 Bold
  • Razor: Feather Artist Club SS Kamisori
  • Blade: Feather Professional
  • Lather: Proraso Blue SuPeR fOrMuLa
  • Post Shave: Declaration Grooming - Southern ParadIce (spiked with synthetic menthol)

Proraso Super Formula is wonderful and I don't use it enough.

[–] merikus 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’ve never heard of this Super Formula, what’s up with that?

[–] gfdoto 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Where have you been? It's the latest reformulation of Proraso that happened maybe 3-4 years ago and it's pretty great. If you can pick some up for cheap then it's worth trying out.

[–] merikus 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If they sell it in Proraso Red then I’m game.

[–] gfdoto 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Yup, they do, both in tube and tub form. With the tub, make sure you see the words "Super Formula" on the lid. For the tube, there is this circular stamping on the box that says "Super Formula".

[–] merikus 2 points 1 year ago

I didn’t know that. Going to have to get some in the tube. Sounds interesting!

[–] 35048467 3 points 1 year ago

Super Formula++

Jun 11, 2023 - Morning Brew

Some mornings a coffee-themed shave is in order.

Rating: 4/5

[–] gfdoto 4 points 1 year ago (3 children)

You should make lather with a cup of coffee instead of water. For science.

[–] merikus 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Excuse me sir the Lather Games don’t start for a few more weeks.

[–] gfdoto 2 points 1 year ago

A little warm up never hurt anyone.

[–] absenth 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

oh, you may have just revolutionized morning shaves for me.....

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666 2 points 1 year ago

If you eat a bit of the soap, you may actually save so much time!

[–] sahenders 3 points 1 year ago

The Coffee Spoons soap is practically made with coffee anyway. This is an interesting idea...for science of course.

Jun. 11th, 2023 - Quick Body Shave

  • Prep: shower, Executive Shaving - Pre-Shave Oil
  • Brush: Simpson Trafalgar T3 (28mm)
  • Bowl: Proraso Mug
  • Razor: RazoRock German 37
  • Blade: Gillette Platinum (3)
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Darkfall
  • Post-shave: Executive shaving - Citrus Kiss

Nothing much to say here. Just a quick shave of a couple body parts to keep some things more tidy during the summer. One of the few times I bothered posting those, because the false bias that face shaving is more valid is too strong in my brain.

I killed the rest of the Darkfall sample since I'm not really into it, but it wasn't quite enough, so I combined it with a pre-shave. A crime, I know, but at least it seems to work better with DG than it does with SW soaps. If I apply a SW lather over pre-shave on my skin, the slickness is ruined if anything. Here, they worked well enough together.

Lemmy Test Post

  • Brush: Zenith 506U XSE
  • Razor: Alimigoose
  • Blade: Kai Captain Mild
  • Lather: Zingari Man - Bon Monsieur
  • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Blue Ice AS
  • Post Shave: Zingari Man - unscented balm
  • Post Shave: Olay Complete

This finishes up my tour through the new soaps I picked up last week at the Maggard Meet. It's a really good scent. It's been a spell since I used some Sego. I'd forgotten how good it is.

[–] Impressive_Donut 3 points 1 year ago

I’m going to take this week and finally unpack my Maggard bag. My storage bins got buried somehow. πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™‚οΈ

[–] walden 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Now back to pretending to kill tubs?

[–] Old_Hiker 2 points 1 year ago

Nooo....pretending to kill samples. I have diminishing goals.

Peerless Firefighter β™₯️

  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Clog-Pruf Peerless (gen 2)
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
  • Brush: Executive Shaving Medium Jock
  • Lather: Noble Otter Firefighter
  • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann Seville splash

I like the Peerless, it's a great GEM razor. But, really which GEM isn't?

Firefighter is delicious, and Seville works very well with it.

  • Razor: Blackland Vector SS
  • Blade: Kai Captain Titan Mild (AC) (10)
  • Lather: Noble Otter – Lonestar
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter – Lonestar

Lonestar is quickly becoming my favorite daily driver type scent. Definitely going to have to pick up the frag at some point.

[–] sahenders 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lonestar is such a great scent.

[–] souleater7173 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I catalogued my software to finish my lather games calendar today so I know I shouldn’t, but I’m definitely about to buy the frag.

[–] sahenders 2 points 1 year ago

I know the feeling. I need to pick up the frag as well.

Was going to sell this brush, but now I'm having second thoughts. This is why I put shit in the spare room when I'm trying to let things go... Idiot.

June 11, 2023

Several people over at the old place claimed that LGC smells like Coca Cola. I get where this comes from, but I don't believe it's true (and I 'm relieved that it didn't impact my enjoyment of the soap).

Many people dislike shavettes, but I find them actually very nice.

Have a good Sunday!

[–] souleater7173 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have the Feather SS in the foldable style, but whenever I use it I hold it straight like the kamisori. Have you tried both? Should I just switch?

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I don't have the folding Feather SS, but I do have a Kai folding shavette, and a Tedalus Essence, which is folding as well.

So should you switch? I really don't know. I slightly prefer the folding style, for no other reason than that it allows to store the blade safely in the razor. I see better what I 'm doing with the kamisori, but otherwise, I don't have a clear preference wrt shaving.

  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Nordost

A lovely orange shave for a Sunday morning.

[–] sahenders 4 points 1 year ago
[–] Mayana 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey, brush buddies!

Nordost is an awesome choice; smells delicious! I should get a full set at some point, too.

[–] Impressive_Donut 2 points 1 year ago

That brush was a total on-sale impulse buy last fall and well worth it.

[–] OnionMiasma 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey, did you try the Nordost cologne they were showing off at Maggard's?

[–] Impressive_Donut 2 points 1 year ago

I did! I should’ve bought some to keep the scent going for a little while longer.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I think I like the artwork on this product better than I like the scent. This is one of those scents that I want to love but, in reality, it is only okay. No issues with the lather, though. Beautiful lather today, which made using the Flying Wing a real joy.

Enjoy your Sunday!

SOTD Sunday 11 June, 2023

  • Prep: JazzRadio.com - Station: Cool Jazz
  • Prep: Warm Shower
  • Brush: Van der Hagen Boar
  • Lather: Clubman Pinaud Shave Soap
  • Razor: 1961 Gillette 195 Adjustable Fat Boy
  • Blade: Shaving Revolution Platinum Series
  • Post: Nivea Men Maximum Hydration Moisturizing Post Shave Balm
  • Post: Brut Classic After Shave
  • Post: I need to learn how to create a bullet list (I'm on a Chromebook and the "list" command below doesn't seem to work (insert sad face here).

I cranked the Fat Boy up to eight (8) to see how it felt. I remember my first shave with the Fat Boy. I started low, but eventually pulled the razor once across my cheek at eight (8) and felt like I was tearing my skin off. I tried it again this morning, and was treated to a wonderful shave. I face lathered, then did a single ATG pass on my face at 8, then dialed it down to 7 for my jaw and neck, remembering to ride the cap the whole way. Wow, what a shave. BBS all the way without any burn, irritation, cuts, or weepers. Here's to improved technique. Have a great day, everybody.

I smell like a fruit salad right now in the best possible way!

I am so in love with this brush and very happy that I snagged one of the last v19 knots with it! This thing makes lathering such an enjoyable experience.

Testing out my first post here. I chose the username I’d have chosen on Reddit if I had known I could change it in the first 30 days. When I first got online back in the days of Dialup, I played a lot of MUDs (text based Multiple User Domains or sometime Dungeons). I usually used Nevyn as my name (from a Katherine Kerr fantasy series with a Celtic/Welsh flair).

I already posted my SOTD at r/Wetshaving. I didn’t realize it would go dark around midnight European time. I figured since the SOTD threads show up in the early morning that they were autoposting around midnight Pacific Time. I was in the middle of replying to a question when I got the message it went private.

Hmm, my bold format shows in the preview (love that), but the bullets didn’t. Now I see bullet icon below the post. Next time I’ll get the format better. Tried selecting and clicking the icon, but not working.

U/Environmental_Gap380

Edit: figured out the formatting I think. No double spacing in a bullet list.
