I've wanted a nice modern mountain bike for years, so I finally went and got one. There are lots of trails near where I live -- including some right in my back yard. Today I drove about 10 minutes to a nice place I had heard about, and it was a really good ride. Easy enough that I could do it, but hard enough that it was a challenge.

Love the color
I don't know - having a camo bike in the woods is dangerous
Hunting isn't allowed here except in some designated places, and only for 1 or 2 months out of the year... and only if the deer population is deemed too high, and even then they only allow bow hunting. Still, ya never know. I should get some cool orange clothes.
Cool! Nothing like a woodland setting. Here in the mid-Atlantic, where it's 96Β°F and (what feels like) 96% humidity, I've been doing laps on the trail between my easy chair and my refrigerator.
Yeah, we had a heat index of 95+. It didn't feel too bad in the woods, thankfully.
Nice to hear that your new bike is satisfying and cool photo! It's kinda interesting to note that this forest/woodland area looks very similar to the ones around where I live.
That's super interesting, honestly. I've lived in 4 or 5 places in the eastern US and all of the woods were distinctly different. The woods here are my favorite of the places I've lived.
I actually found it pretty surprising too tbh. Most forests here in Thuringia are 'MischwΓ€lder' , meaning they are a mix of both deciduous trees and conifers/pine trees. Means you have a pretty even mix of foliage and needles around everywhere. If I remember, I'll snap a photo for you and post it to next week's thread π
I honed 3 razors today, after noting that I must have done something very wrong with my TI (issues with the natural stone π±). I also honed my 2 new razors. I haven't test-shaved set, but the paching-peanut test looks promising.
Good! Looking forward to hearing about your test-shaves.
Well, I have a long period of vacation time ahead of me after working the early shift this weekend. Retrainees at my current workplace get their vacation days not for the entire year, but from school year to school year... So I had to take 3 weeks before August to use up my remaining days. I barely worked at my new job due to nursing school and the long internship, but I already became familiar with the routines at work and the whole team accepts me more. Kinda nice.
As for more serious matters, my grandmother is still alive but barely (according to my mum). After her most recent hospitalisation, she can't leave the bed anymore, can only speak short sentences in a whispering tone and is unable to hold eye contact for more than a few seconds (if she opens her eyes at all). Nobody knows how long the process will take but due to my experiences in my field of work, I dread that it'll be long and drawn out. I intend to visit her again but my mental health is a bit strained due to these circumstances...
Sorry about your grandma.
