Realistically, we are so fucked. One single bomb on a highway or railway can completely decimate any one of our province's ability to move people or goods and perform services. Our border is too long and wild to be defendable. And they could probably take out our entire military logistics in a single night of bombings. All of this isn't even to mention that if they wanted to go all out insane they could make nuclear threats if the Canadian government doesn’t capitulate. I'm not saying we couldn't resist once occupied, it's just fucking hideous to think about.

Just chiming to throw some light hearted shade at lemmy.world for defederating from the piracy communities. My time on lemmy.world was really poor, and I came away not thinking too highly of Lemmy as a whole. My experience in different instances has been a world of difference, and I finally get fantastic content in my feeds and am fully on board with Lemmy
So I accidentally disabled the UserJS toggle, and now I can't interact with the UI at all to re-enable it. Any ideas how I can fix that in the configuration files?
Appreciate it. I wish it was a tin-foil conspiracy; the reality is much more grim. We want this, apparently.
It's way too early to put on a tin foil hat — and I know nothing about the German election to base this on — but given Trump's comments about Musk potentially helping him commit voter fraud in the USA, paired with Elon's constant meddling in Germany lately, is it too far to suggest that there may be enough evidence to consider that Elon may have meddled in the German election?
I see a lot of people blaming Americans for voting in a fascist, and sure, a lot definitely did; but enough doubt has been sewn for me that I'm not even certain that they did vote Donald Trump in
I can't entirely recall the precise details now, but I was trying to uninstall Nvidia and Mesa packages to fix some driver issues. Some mesa-related packages were remaining, and I couldn't figure out why, so I manually typed their names in and purged them, then proceeded to watch python, the desktop environment — everything — all uninstall haha.
Sex with a hella sexy robot? Nice.
Using a hella sexy robot to fill the emptiness of no intimacy or authentic mutual connection? Not nice.
For some reason sex with a robot doesn't feel gross to me — until they start using it to fill a hole (hehe)
I will never forgive Microsoft for just straight up deleting everyone's (mine) MineCraft purchases and accounts, and then having the gall to tell us to buy it again. It's still in my Microsoft Store purchase history, for Christ's sake.
I'd sooner buy Skyrim 4 more times than buy back what was stolen from me.
Seems intelligent and I've enjoyed some of his videos. I don't know much about him other than he's a bit... intense? and he's sparked controversy with some people. I looove the FUTO keyboard app he's associated with. It's the best TTS keyboard I've found, and I refuse to use the Google/Samsung/etc equivalents
Drug addiction. Its not necessarily easy to fix, but we know how to treat it and take care of our vulnerable, we just don't: social workers, public services, shelters, safe drug sites with drug counselors. We've become so numb to the mass suffering on a societal and individual level.
Personal anedcote, a year ago, a man was dying of an OD next to our Tim Horton's drive thru, splayed out in the middle of the road, and the dozens of people driving by cared more about getting their coffee and getting to work than to even call an ambulance. I went to the pharmacy down the road and got a narcan kit and administered it, but Jesus Christ I lost a lot of trust and faith in my fellow man that day. Not enough people care; even people I love and respect say disgusting things about homeless people.
Ahh interesting. Is that a Windows 11 thing? I haven't taken the plunge
I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend that you NOT use Mint. I've been using a linux for a month now, so I'm new to it like you.
My first time trying Linux was Mint, and I didn't like it at all. There was too much crap downloaded on it, and it abstracted the underlying systems too much, so I found it all very confusing. I suggest that you download a distro that Mint is based on, and then install the actual stuff you want on it.
Mint is based on Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. I decided to go with Debian as a total noob and it makes waaay more sense to me this time around. I enjoy customizing it to my liking rather than Mint doing it all for me—often in ways I don't like.
