Weinfern Gothique

  • Brush: Dogclaration LG 2022 Mystery Brush (B16)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur Unnumbered 8/8" ( hollow ground, stainless steel, round point)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Reserve Fern
  • Aftershave: Barrister and Mann – Fougère Gothique
  • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux – Weinstrasse

Fougère hodgepodge and sample kill today. Reserve was a really good base.

Gothique and Weinstrasse aren't the best combination, a bit of a clash. Live and learn 😅

This is when the lack of a diminutive in English makes itself felt.😅

Thrillchen of the killchen!

[–] gcgallant 5 points 6 months ago

When there's no diminutive, a rephasing often works:

Thrill of the Kill → Happy Ending

(Oh wait, that means something else 🫤)

  • Brush: Stirling 24mm Synthetic
  • Blade: Dorco SD507 disposable (5)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Electric Mayhem - Soap
  • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Musk - After Shave Cologne

A basic travel shave.

I love that a shave with fancy soap and a brush counts as a basic shave around here. 😊

[–] gcgallant 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Well, amongst us shaving nerds using a straight razor on travel is considered basic 😉 -- ahem @walden a disposable? I'm guessing that a plane was involved in this travel 🤔

This comment reminds me of something: on the discord chat, I've started floating the idea of a #HeadlessHorsemen side challenge for this year's AA: #FriodomRiders, where we use a stainless straight. What do you think?

[–] gcgallant 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

I want to join the Discord chat but time management is still a thing for me these days.

More importantly, I plan to do Headless Horsemen whether the challenge runs or not. Naturally, this will be another microscope data gathering exercise for me. I'll use MRTNG's Ultra Nightmare Mode with no palm stropping. Palm stropping is for sissies. I'm considering using a Koraat because Ulrik's steel is hardened to 64 HRC and has significant wear resistance. I could definitely get behind #FriodomRiders. Besides us, I know that VW owns a Frio, but I don't think he does Austere August (or hasn't the past couple of years). Who else would participate?

[–] djundjila 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Zimora and InfernalInternal also have frios. I might choose my dovo stainless.

[–] gcgallant 2 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Well, I will certainly join in. I'm also considering doing a BBS August in order to kill my tub of Stag and my tub of 70^th^ Anniversary. Each tub should take about a month to kill.

[–] djundjila 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The double AA! Kudos if you do it!

[–] gcgallant 2 points 6 months ago

I'm thinking of using a stainless and a carbon steel straight if I do it. We'll see how I feel about it in July. I'm also thinking about renting a place in Quebec and stepping away from my routine for a while.

Good guess! I enjoy a cart/disposable shave from time to time, but would never use one at home.

🌿 Fougère Friday: Logbook🪻

  • Brush: Declaration Grooming Know It All 28mm B14 Badger Knot
  • Razor: Blackland Razors Blackbird Ti
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue [1]
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Logbook - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Logbook - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Declaration Grooming - Auryn - Eau de Parfum

Coming back to Logbook and the Blackbird with a fresh Lab Blue after some time away was fantastic. I didn't realize how much I had missed both.

Safe travels to anyone who needs it this weekend.

Happy Fougère Friday!

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Fougère Bouquet is the first soap that I purchased from Wholly Kaw. I've been a fan of WK ever since. The richness of the lather and the richness of this fougère scent are perfectly matched.

[–] djundjila 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Fougère Bouquet is nice. Have you also tried Fougère Mania? I like it even more, though it is too close to Varen toi justify a full tub for me.

Is this the tallow Siero base?

[–] sahenders 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Have you tried Le Fougère Parfaite? I think it's their only fougère-named scents I haven't tried.

[–] djundjila 2 points 6 months ago

No, that one's escaped me too
