Look, a self-professed Nazi that goes around pushing his views, now is in charge of The United States Treasury which is involved in EVERY expenditure and Penny the US spends.

A Nazi, is now in a ridiculously powerful position to affect every thing the USA does domestically, and internationally, and is supported by the President.

THIS is “America”?

Your country is FUCKING OVER, because ‘Americans’ let this happen.

But, …as long as you all have Tik Tok and FB, right?

The only time America loses its mind is when there’s a national security threat. I don’t know what’s going on here, but all of these allowances seem totally out of the norm, so I am going to guess it’s something like that.

[–] OCATMBBL@lemmy.world 33 points 19 hours ago

This is a national security threat. The database accessed contains private information for a huge amount of people. SSNs, DOBs, addresses, names, and pay. That's for federal employees, retirees, anyone on Social Security income.

It pays government contracts (hey it's not like Elon has any of those!), it can be turned off, it can be manipulated, the data is being stolen via unverified, unapproved external drives, and God knows what is being installed into this system. Also, the people who are in charge of it are locked out.

Let's not forget Elon is a foreign born immigrant who overstayed his visa (an illegal immigrant you say?), was denied the appropriate security levels after his background check, recently had been in contact with foreign governments and tried to manipulate elections, has been courting far-right parties like AfD, and on a national stage threw up a Heil.

This is a goddamn joke.

What we have is a wildly dysfunctional federal government, that is coming apart at the seams because it turns out whatever stability we used to have was actually just held together with the scotch tape of good intentions and gentlemanly agreements rather than actual rules. All three branches are entirely captured by oligarchs that have no reverence for democracy, the constitution, or the people of this nation. The media has no incentive to educate the populace and the mob is slobbering with manufactured fear, driving them to shoot themselves in the dick over and over and over again. All of this is sitting on top of the stumbling momentum of unfathomable military capacity that renders the rest of the world impotent to stand in opposition. There’s no consistent rule of law, and the emerging feudal class is building bunkers.

Reminded of one of the few times I liked Keith Olberman: https://youtu.be/PKZKETizybw

"We would call it a coup, but we're afraid."

Can any of these people do anything? It's insane. There's a lot of talk, but no one is stopping anything, or (seemingly) trying.

There's only so much that words can do.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

And what will you do about it? Nothing but whine as usual?

[–] don@lemm.ee 20 points 1 day ago (1 children)

WE’RE TALKING THOUGH! TALKING! EVEN!

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The other day when the new DNC guy got elected and gave his stupid speech where he made it clear that their plan is to keep talking angrily and hope that it works this time, I've just started calling them The Puppet Party.

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

How do we go about making a new one?

[–] NobodyElse@sh.itjust.works 5 points 21 hours ago

The first step is to stop pretending like the old one still works. It seems convenient that there’s still a skeleton of a functional party there to rebuild from, but it’s so thoroughly poisoned that it’s probably better to abandon it and start fresh.

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I'd lean towards one of the existing parties (not including the two main here, and DEFINITELY NOT THE GREEN PARTY), because getting on the ballot has requirements depending on the state.

Unfortunately, the options mostly suck. If you want left, the largest is technically the green party, but going back to my previous comment, the green party is completely captured garbage. At no point since its founding has it behaved like anything but a spoiler party. Don't waste the time here.

Next up in terms of size would be the Working Families Party, which has ballot access in 3 states. To get around this, they caucus with the Democrats like the Vermont Progressive Party (Bernie). You can learn more about them here:

https://workingfamilies.org/

And of course wikipedia and the like as well. Unlike the green party, they actually campaign at the state and federal level and get people in - for example, Rashia Tlaib. To me, the WFP presents the most viable strategy, since they are on the larger side, have some degree of ballot access, and coordinate with the democrats to run WFP candidates - which, understandably will bother some, but presents an opportunity (imo) to take people from known Dem to knowing WFP, and still pushing the same WFP candidates. Getting information out to people is an uphill battle, so using a known party is an advantage here, and presents the opportunity to take over.

The FEC will recognize a new party when they raise / spend money over thresholds with a federal election, and it is the FEC which determines if they have national committee status. The FEC doesn't need to be involved for state or local elections, but must be brought in for any federal elections.

State/local will have different requirements, but its primarily going to be around fund raising and signatures. You need to show that you've got enough support to matter to gain ballot access. Some states allow "designations", where its not a recognized party, but you can list the association all the same, and then its just getting enough signatures to get on the ballot in that location.

Generally speaking, an individual's ballot access is from:

  • Being nominated by a state-recognized party
  • Independent by petition (getting signatures)
  • Running as a write in candidate

Running as a write-in can work for local, but will be insanely hard at the state level and near impossible at the federal level. Independent (and maybe with a designation) is the next jump up and only requires signatures, and then the state-recognized party would generally mean you've gotten FEC approval at that point.

Start local, work your way up. Hope this helps answer, its obviously much more than a (somewhat quick) comment here....

Edited to add: Obviously there are other parties, such as the Libertarian Party, that are larger than WFP. I excluded the centrists and right-wing parties, because, you know, thats the trash we have currently.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

You have to take down the entire dictatorship first.

[–] aarRJaay@lemm.ee 26 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Being a trained software engineer, no matter how good doesn't make you an expert in finance, law, economics or anything else related to what they have their hands in.

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 14 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah I was thinking the same and haven't seen anyone else point this out. How the fuck is it possible for these schmucks to grasp the mechanics of something so large in just a few days with no prior training or experience. It's pure insanity.

[–] cannibalkitteh@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

They're only concerned with grinding it to a halt. Then they can point to a private sector solution that can be contracted in.

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 8 points 17 hours ago

I think their plan is much worse than that as they have unchecked power. This is more than just a grift to divert some government funds into the private sector.

[–] don@lemm.ee 35 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So you had a chat about a bad thing. Now what? Keep talking? Yeah, keep talking. That’ll change things.

[–] brygphilomena@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Sure, but we can't ever stop talking about it either. We need more, too. But we need to keep making people aware. Keep it in the news, keep it in public discourse.

[–] snausagesinablanket@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Attack? Oxford dictionary definition of Attack:

Take aggressive action against (a place or enemy forces) with weapons or armed force, typically in a battle or war.

Miriam Webster:

To set upon or work against forcefully.

Democrats:

Complain within their own halls.

[–] aarRJaay@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Is it a coup if the president is allowing it and encouraging it to happen?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 17 points 21 hours ago

Sure. President Musk is 100% behind this coup.

[–] AbouBenAdhem@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

See autocoup.

Although... I wonder if Trump’s followers could be convinced that Musk is controlling him with one of his NeuraLink chips?

[–] kerrypacker@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

What would you connect it to?

[–] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 11 points 21 hours ago

Are you implying that a president cannot be part of a coup?

[–] tyler@programming.dev 7 points 1 day ago

“Would”???

[–] magic_smoke@lemmy.blahaj.zone -2 points 22 hours ago

Holy fuck what happened to his eyebrows.

[–] endeavor@sopuli.xyz -2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I mean everyone is getting exactly what they voted for so what is the big problem?
