Haven't read through it in the entirety but found it on another site I trust. Figured it may be of use to others here.

Eh, smells of either honeypot or site that will instantly implode.

Places on here already cool for trans stuff

I have concerns about this site, tbh. I can't find anything overtly wrong, but a few things stand out:

  • Unclear focus / purpose. (is this for dating? social interaction? both?)
  • App-only model, but with a read-only webview for some reason. (Why would you do this, except to allow anonymous scraping and/or collect extra data?)
  • Supposedly built by a solo trans person, who somehow has resources to create a website and two separate apps.
  • Includes an iOS app, which has hurdles that few indies are able to deal with.
  • Closed-source, no clear ownership or transparency.
  • App collects location data, according to Google.

It could just be my paranoia speaking, but I'd advise against using this. It feels like a honeypot or some kind of trap.

From the Privacy Policy:

Your Location

When you create an account, we ask you to share your location with us through the App in order to use all features. We use your location to determine your distance from other users and to help you find personals and missed connections in your area. We collect this information automatically by collecting your Internet Protocol address and your Unique Device ID. It is possible to opt out of sharing your location at sign up, but app functionality is limited.

yeah, don't use this app.

"T4T social". Is this a dating site or a social media platform? It seems very confused as to its purpose. (I don't want to come of as abrasive, I am just confused by this site). The google play store rates it as 18+ and it seems to have features that would be common on dating apps (or at least that is my impression as someone who has never used a dating app) but then some of the messages / posts I see on them seem more like stuff you would see on a social media platform

I honestly don't know. But I hear you, I should vet things better.

This skeeves me out. I wouldn't if I were you guys.

Yeah. Dating sits and social media sites need to be kept separate. If someone is in a poly or open relationship, more power to them. But the vast, vast majority of the population, including most trans people, don't have any interest in that sort of thing. And most people in monogamous relationships would see their partner being on a dating app to be a huge betrayal of trust and fidelity. To try and blur the line between dating apps and social media just seems like a terrible idea.

But the vast, vast majority of the population, including most trans people...

I don't know what circles you roll in, but from what I've seen the majority of trans folks are polyamorous or open. I do agree with your other points though, that combining social media and dating features is a terrible idea.

I'm also really questioning the fact it doesn't appear to be open source at all, in an era where there are so many different fedi projects that could just be used with a custom frontend/app.

Edit: I was wrong, the app is indeed open source: https://gitea.com/t4t

That repo doesn't seem to list a license yet, so more like source available. They might have just not decided how they want to license it yet, so I'm at least mildly hopeful.

Only way to sign up for an account:

The fact it's basically app-only, similar to the way reddit is on mobile, skeeves me.

Is it just an unfiltered series of posts? Personally a bit more sex-focused than I'm really looking for in my social media, but maybe if there were categories or something?

Sounds really nice, and based on the reviews, it seems like a very cozy and supportive place! The UI and overall design though 😬 It probably grows on you over time. Thank you for sharing 🩷 Saving to look more into later!
