It's not like they couldn't put a stop to blackouts before, as seen with the third-party app fiasco, but Reddit has now made that tactic entirely impossible. Mods will now need to get permission from Reddit admins before they can make a sub private. Makes me wonder if they're about to do something controversial again soon.

This is why I never really understand when people go "Just use Linux!!". It isn't a feasible option for everyone. For me, I work full time and I don't have the energy to constantly fix things if they break. When I switched to Linux, I took great pains to ensure that my computer use case is one that could work in Linux, built a computer with parts known to be fine in Linux(including an AMD graphics card) and run Debian Stable on because I wanted something that wouldn't be constantly updating. I'm in a comfy situation now, but I did a lot of planning beforehand that you can't really expect people to do. Like, it's great if we get more people using Linux, but that's not a trivial ask.

It's pretty damn naive to think that a second Trump presidency would be identical to his first. Trump may be a moron, but even he can learn. Members of his last administration managed to keep his worst instincts in check. It'll just be syncophants this time around. Plus, the man is enraged by his court cases and is the middle of a massive cognitive decline that dwarfed that of Biden. This is not a reasonable or rational man. Putting Donald Trump in charge now is quite frankly suicidal.

I mean, you can ignore the throngs of people waving "Mass Deportation Now" signs if you want. You can think to yourself, "It won't be that bad". People hold foolish opinions all the time. No matter what you think, though, rhetoric matters. Donald Trump is legitimizing this fascist shit to millions of people. Maybe Trump won't do it. Maybe the next guy will instead. But the fact that we haven't truly put a stop to this is an indictment of the American people. This is evil.

And, tbh, I'm not sure he'll even listen to the rich that much, anyway. He'll ram through his stupid tariffs and he'll attempt the deportations.

Whether they actually intend to do so or not, them just straight up saying that they're taking pages out of the book of Nazi Fucking Germany should be a massive cause for alarm. Like countless other statements from him, this should have been disqualifing and it's incredibly disturbing how many people still support this fascist.

oof. Yeah, they did the right thing pulling the plug on this for now. You'd probably spend more time waiting for a match to queue up than actually playing the game.

Wow, this is absolutely wild. From launch to delisting in two weeks. Yeah, there's a good chance that this is temporary while they pivot to a free-to-play model, but holy crap. Guess the PS5 player count must not be substantially higher than the abysmal Steam player count.

Kids were pushed for decades to take large loans at age 18 because they were told constantly that if they didn't go to college, they'd be stuck flipping burgers, digging ditches or whatever. Of course they'd take the loan at that point. Honestly, they've been set up to fail. This is just another tool used to trap people in wage slavery. Forgive the damn debt. I don't care if it's "unfair" to those who don't have college debt. I don't, but I still want it to happen.

Yeah, hopefully the inclusiveness trend continues.

Then we'd be going back to having the vast majority of games having a cis male protagonist. No thanks. I don't mind playing as them from time to time, but I want a choice, especially if the main character is one of those blank slate types.

“I think the existing, altruistic, free version of Reddit will continue to exist and grow and thrive just the way it has,” Huffman said. “But now we will unlock the door for new use cases, new types of subreddits that can be built that may have exclusive content or private areas, things of that nature.”

Yikes. Well, at least we have something easy to point to when we're asked why we're defederated from lemmy.world.

This article is a few months old, but it's rather eye opening.

I hope that this ends up being the right decision. The Dems must really, truly think they can't win with Joe Biden. Kudos to Joe for setting his ego aside, I know that can't have been easy. Let's unite behind whoever gets picked and beat Trump.

I swear that if Biden dies of covid so soon after Trump survives an assassination attempt, we are never going to hear the end of it. The MAGA folks already have been crowing about how God saved Trump.

Get well soon, Joe.

I'm doing a replay of Dragon Age Origins. Slogging my way through my least favorite part of the game(the Deep Roads) right now. I'm not that good at the game, so for the harder encounters, I've cheesed them by having one member of my party run forward to aggro one group, then run back to where the rest are in order to deal with them one group at a time. If I let my party fight normally, they accidentally aggro multiple groups and they get overwhelmed. That plus saving after every difficult encounter is helping me get through it.

My warden is an elven mage; she's mostly built for casting ice magic and healing. I usually use Alistair as a tank, Zevran as a dual wielding damage dealer and Leliana as an archer/support unit.

It's a long read, but it's a good read, and it's worth your time. This is what we're up against; the christofascists are organizing, they're taking their shot now to end secularism. They know their ideas are unpopular, but it doesn't take much to flip an election. This is their best shot at creating a dystopian theocratic nightmare and they are pulling as many levers as possible(whether it's getting vote out from Christians, sowing election doubt, or pounding societal wedge issues) to get Trump in. This is both a last-ditch effort from those who know that Christianity's influence in society will continue to wane, but also one in which they have a good chance of succeeding. They are all in. Are we? I doubt it. We need to be.
