They're saying the quiet part out loud again

[–] pyre@lemmy.world 8 points 4 hours ago

they must have been impressed by his impeccable performance on the stage with chapelle

I think Elon Musk is worried about his Tesla stock. He knows Democrats will pave the way for EV cars, but Republicans will and have already put up roadblocks to EVs. By joining their side, he makes it harder for Republicans to paint EVs as “a democrat thing.” Even Trump is like “I guess I have to support EVs now, because Elon Musk supports me.”

I bet that is a significant reason he has cozied up to the Republican side in recent years.

Or he's just a fascist money hoarder

[–] FlowVoid@lemmy.world 52 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

OK Nostradamus. I'll file that prediction alongside "Full self drive in 2018" and "Mars landing in 2024"

Trump later invited Musk on stage. The X owner walked on wearing a black blazer over a shirt saying “Occupy Mars” and a black MAGA hat. “As you can see, I’m not just MAGA,” said Musk. “I’m dark MAGA.” Dark MAGA is a memecoin, a type of cryptocurrency inspired by online trends. The valuation of Dark MAGA soared right around the time that Musk spoke.

That's so grifty. So overtly grifty that it's approaching "hello fellow kids" levels of transparency. Up there with Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand praying together. It's just strange and funny to see these grifters all clumping together like this.

So that makes this the, what, fifth crypto pump-and-dump Elon has done? How has the SEC not bagged this guy yet?

[–] spacesatan@lazysoci.al 2 points 2 hours ago

This feels like a reach. It's probably just a lame appropriation of dark brandon.

[–] DasAlbatross@lemmy.world 12 points 8 hours ago

Grifters go where the easiest marks are.

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 4 points 7 hours ago

I’m not just MAGA,” said Musk. “I’m dark MAGA.”

More like dork maga.

“If they don’t, this will be the last election. That’s my prediction.”

As always, projection, projection, projection. Project 2025 says this is literally their goal.

[–] atzanteol@sh.itjust.works 71 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

The slate of fake electors in 2020 says this was literally their goal. They already tried it. I'm furious that this isn't the only thing we talk about.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 23 points 10 hours ago

Never mind talking about it; I'm furious that the treasonous coup leader wasn't at the end of a rope three years ago.

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 34 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

projection

I dont think people use this term accurately, and it's thrown around pretty often.

In my opinion, musk isn't projecting, hes just a deliberate propogandist. He doesn't believe what he's saying, honestly he knows it's a total BS lie. He's just saying it to energize and sway the cult of dumb-dumbs, many of which will lap it up like hungry puppies.

Projection has a more specific definition which includes denial and actively believing in what you're projecting. Musk is consciously lying and knows it.

Projection

[–] suigenerix@lemmy.world 42 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Yes, that's psychological projection.

But in these situations, people are referring to the technique of propaganda projection.

[–] Yawweee877h444@lemmy.world 17 points 10 hours ago

Ah nice, I stand corrected. Thanks for the info

[–] nutsack@lemmy.world 16 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

i legitimately don't understand why this is happening other than maybe he gets more lobbying power over this guy for less money than a democrat

[–] Nuke_the_whales@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Maybe he's trying to corner the EV market through the Republicans. If the Democrats make it more attractive for all manufactures to make EVs, Tesla loses

[–] Blum0108@lemmy.world 13 points 7 hours ago

He thinks if the Republicans win then they will let him do whatever crazy thing he plans on doing without any oversight.

[–] Naich@lemmings.world 64 points 12 hours ago
[–] datavoid@lemmy.ml 66 points 12 hours ago

You know, im starting to think this "Elon Musk" character isn't such a great guy.......

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 77 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

Aha.

Now it makes sense.

Also, I am really enjoying their new, desperate voter registration drive. I think they figured out that a bunch of January 6th insurrectionists didn't even bother voting.

He can't let a chance to pump 'n dump a shitcoin pass, can he?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 33 points 12 hours ago

It's always about the grift. That's why he and Trump get along so well.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 6 points 9 hours ago

He's like the "Spongebob-as-Quickster" meme:

Wanna see me pump and dump crypto?

...Wanna see me do it again?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

That's it, just grifting a shitcoin? Are we sure there isn't some kind of paramilitant dog whistle or something that the article writer missed?

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 8 points 8 hours ago

I actually assumed it was because Dark Brandon was popular and getting things done.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

why vote if it's all rigged anyway?

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 55 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

The last election they have a chance at winning before MAGA impodes

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 27 points 12 hours ago (5 children)

trump may be done after this but I don't think MAGA is going anywhere.

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 2 points 4 hours ago

Yeah, people have said this after many elections, and it's never true because there are only two parties, so neither one will ever go away so long as we maintain a two party system.

[–] _bcron_@lemmy.world 39 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (3 children)

There's no apparent successor and there hasn't been any attempt by Trump to nudge anyone towards that (he doesn't give a shit about a post-Trump lanscape), but a half dozen people would attempt to claim it as their own, so if MAGA does survive it'd probably be really messy for a while.

Normally we use conventions for this kind of thing but they'd be competing against traditional Republicans in that space, so I'm expecting to see MGT and DJT and Boebert and a bunch of others just try to pull each other's hair out, like an obscenely wealthy grandparent that had no will and no clear next of kin.

The heirarchal structure is basically Donald so the risk of the entire collective decapitating itself is pretty high

[–] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 5 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

I'm expecting to see MGT and DJT and Boebert and a bunch of others just try to pull each other's hair out

Can we lock them in a coliseum and toss in a few lions?

[–] affiliate@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

the more lions the better

[–] _bcron_@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Gaetz and MTG are batting .500 for ousting their own party's house speaker. I don't think we'll need a coliseum, just C-Span lol

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

It'll just rebrand itself the same way it went from Tea Party to MAGA

[–] _bcron_@lemmy.world 4 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

The thing about that is that it'd require cohesion and unity across all Republicans, and it seems like Trump himself is the only one seemingly able to pull this off.

The Whigs tore themselves apart in similar manner and all it'd take is a third of Republicans to back some group of MAGA (or rebranded) politicians who decide to stay on the ballot as third party. There are already multiple factions under the 'R' namesake and it'd just take a little pull in opposite directions. They're a stubborn bunch

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago (1 children)
[–] _bcron_@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

I know. Will they work together or back an outsider of a presumptive nominee such as MTG? Or will they all just duke it out while a more mainstream Republican capitalizes on the dysfunction? We'll find out soon enough

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

they won't necessarily need to duke it out if Sr unequivocally endorses and campaigns for one.

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 11 hours ago

He's a Trumpian style candidate

*Some talking head in the future

We will never be rid of this style of ass hat.

[–] AshMan85@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

Considering the civil war did not end the idea of the confederation you are probably right.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

True, but from what I see, no one seems to love the others nearly as much as Trump for some weird reason. Every other evil person they throw up there doesn't seem to get the same attention, thankfully. I hope it stays that way...

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

I think that will change in the absence of Trump as a candidate, especially if he throws his weight behind one of his kids.

[–] Carrolade@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago

This is kinda a natural result of authoritarian structures going back millennia. It's a big king of the hill game, because nobody up top is really in it for the movement, they're in it for themselves.

I would point to the old monarchies of Europe as an excellent example of this all playing out though, with a huge number of individual data points to work with.

Avoiding this whole mess is one of the primary purposes of democratic forms of government.

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 18 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

The orange felon, RFK Jr and Musk, quit a collection of misfits, adulterers and greedy liars. Oh wait, RFK Jr must have been off somewhere collecting roadkill.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 11 points 9 hours ago

Oh wait, RFK Jr must have been off somewhere collecting roadkill.

Nah, he was in court arguing why he should be taken off the ballot in red states while also arguing why he should remain on the ballot in blue states. Cause you know, he's totally not a spoiler candidate.

[–] andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago

He missed an opportunity to present dark maga coins in a blackface.
