Hell yeah!
- I'm in!
- I vote third Wednesday of the month
- I nominate Abbate Y La Mantia β Don JosΓ¨
Regarding the poll, I suggest to initially do it manually. Once we have collected participants and nominations here, we could make a standalone post with the options listed and participants give their ranked vote (first preference, second, etc) in comments?

Good idea!
One wrt Don JosΓ©: Do you know whether they put in real bananas? I'm a bit worried, because banana gave me a angioedema 20 years ago, and I have avoided them ever since π±
banana gave me a angioedema
Ouch!
Unfortunately I'm not sure. Is not in the list of ingredients of the new hard soap, but I have the old soft version, and can't find a list it's ingredients. I'd guess no, but can't be sure
Thinking about it, even if there's banana in it, it shouldn't be too much of an issue: allergy tests apply the substance on the skin, and make a small incision. It's just like careless shaving π€£
Don Josè is nice! I have a tin where I can help with distribution.
Great! Thanks for offering!

3rd week of July sounds good to me.
No polls on Lemmy so we'd have to use a 3rd party website.
Depending on the number of participants, one of the 1oz samples from Barrister & Mann would be interesting since it's a new soap base, and new scents.
Are you referring to vegan Omnibus? Are you nominating Roam Two?
Yes and maybe. Pencil Pusher would also be good.
@walden@sub.wetshaving.social @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social
So, we are set for the 17 of July for the first installment. Shall I open a new post for the voting? And how do we proceed? I simply collect all proposals here, and put them up to vote, or shall we discuss still further? We are not many, so I think we could come to a consensus without very formal voting procedure.
I'd make a new post and then add a comment for each soap that was nominated. We can use upvotes as the polling (ignoring downvotes, but I'll just ban anyone who downvotes! jk).
Edit: maybe also make it a rule that you can't vote for your own nomination.
Upvoting would allow anyone inethe fediverse to choose !unless you mods see who upvoted). It would adso allow for several votes per person.
I don't knok if this could be excluded if we do a Mastodon poll. I also don't know if itewould be an issue in the first place.
Yes, we can see who votes how.
Yes, mastodon polls can have their visibility set to "mentioned people only" like DMs
Multiple votes might be ok, like the photo contest on Reddit. Worst case we'll need a tie breaker.
We can see who votes so we can check for random upvotes.
Ok, so I'll post this tomorrow.
Why not vote for your own? We nominate soaps we'd like to share, so "winning" means doing volunteer work. That feels ok
If everyone voted for their own there could be 5 entries, each with a single vote (no winner). If you can't vote for your own you have to vote for something else, so the higher chance of something getting at least 2 votes.
With a small number of voters and a relatively large number of things to vote on, it makes sure there's a winner.
Ranked voting solves that problem π
I wish. Voting by upvote is a bit lacking compared to ranked voting!
We only a handful of people, so I suggest we
- Vote in text form because it allows for ranked voting that yields the right result without run off elections or similar shenanigans or
- A Mastodon poll knowing that it might require runoff polls if the winner doesn't have a majority.
Voting by up down votes suffers from every fedinaut being able to vote, not just participants
- I'm in!
- I'm fine with the third Wednesday of the month
- I tried a sample of Abbate Y L Mantia a long time ago and liked it. Don Josè seems like a great scent, but has menthol. Is there another interesting offering that lacks menthol?
I like the name Buena Vista Wetshaving Social Club, btw. I have the Ry Cooder-produced album (Buena Vista Social Club).
I only have Ishtar left, and it does leave a slight cool feeling on the skin - not sure though whether this is because of menthol. In any case, Marduk does contain menthol (though not much).
If others want to use Don Josè the menthol is not a deal breaker for me.
I sincerely applaud the effort and kudos for the great name you came up with! I'd be interested, but I really don't want to do a subpar effort compared to the others who participate. Preparing and sending samples could also turn out to be a nightmare atm since german customs are cracking down hard on every parcel that's non-EU due to the European football championship. I really don't want them to delay everything so that nothing reaches anybody in time. However, I'll cherish your SOTD review posts!
Would you be down to receive a smush, though?
I personally think it'd be unfair if I only received something but never returned the favour. Plus, since customs officials grew increasingly suspicious of all foreign parcels from non-EU countries it'd be disappointing if someone scrapes out a few chunks of soap only for one of them to be destroyed. Hell, they even searched a parcel by Djundjila of various Catie's Bubbles soap samples he sent me and he's just from Switzerland! It got delayed for over 3 weeks.
Nah, don't worry about it! Unless you don't like the idea of used soap, I know that skeeves some people out.
I've got zero reservations about that. Soap is antibacterial by itself and since most in the hobby care better for their soap than anything else - I wouldn't be afraid about any germs.
First off, great name!
- I'm in!
- I'm good with the third Wednesday
- I nominate something from Dr. Jon's
I had to double-checkβfor Dr. Jon's, I can contribute either Flowers in the Dark, Rose of Phrygia, or Runaway.
I've always been curious about Flowers in the Dark!
