Maybe extreme weather conditions for trail cams? That's the only reason I would think about using one but never actually buy one for lol.

People will pay more money for premium.

But yeah environmentally this is a damn good idea. We should make everything out of metal.

[–] Mandy@sh.itjust.works 0 points 3 weeks ago

sounds pretty metal

[–] dadarobot@lemmy.sdf.org 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Personally, id choose them over plastic ones if not just to save plastic

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 0 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

doesn't metal manufacturing use quite a lot more energy?

[–] Strykker@programming.dev 0 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

But it has the benefit of not breaking down into micro plastics and getting into every part of everyone.

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 0 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

True enough. Though I wonder, as a thought experiment, what would be the actual better option in the long run. Some type of resin maybe?

[–] tromars@feddit.org 0 points 3 weeks ago

I guess using renewables for the energy needs of metal production would work too

that's...

I somehow doubt that.

Uranium baseball cups. Not physically possible to throw a baseball hard enough to damage the goods, plus it helps combat the effects of overpopulation.

Good thing heavy metal toxicity isn't a problem.

[–] Strykker@programming.dev 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Steel or stainless ain't gonna give you metal poisoning

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Stainless steel leaches nickel and chromium.

[–] Strykker@programming.dev 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Better toss all your cookware then

[–] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago

I'll toss it when I toss my plastic tupperware. The problem is re-usability, not what it's made out of. SD card gets tossed out, doesn't matter what it is made out of, it's going to pollute.

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

"Honey, I accidently digested our SD card again"

[–] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

probably, but then i can ingest less micro plastics. Which is probably good.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You're not supposed to eat them.

i literally cannot help myself.

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

at least its not a single use product, the packaging it comes in is probably a worse contributor

honestly, this might be true. There are definitely worse things to be made from metal lol

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 0 points 3 weeks ago

But what about ingesting micrometals
