March 1, 2024 - A Samurai Shave

  • Brush: Zenith r/Wetshaving 31mm x 57mm Moar Boar

  • Razor: Iwasaki 13/16" Full Hollow Square Point Tamahagane

  • Lather: Chicago Grooming - AG 1889 - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Aftershave: Chicago Grooming - AG 1889 - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

For my first shave of March Madness, I'm supporting the underdog. Though seeded 16, I think that Vida of Chicago Grooming Co. demonstrates the depth of great talent that we consumers of shaving products have available to us. I enjoyed my first shave with this r/Wetshaving exclusive. The scent off of the tub when I first opened it was strong in lavender but after lathering it and using it the overall blend came through.

I've had this Iwasaki razor since the fall of 2023. I finally decided to stop admiring it, put an edge on it, and use it. Today's shave was a test shave. The razor passed with flying colors. Ultra close and comfortable. I could not be happier with it as a shaver.

The steel on this razor (Tamahagane) was revered by samurai sword makers. If you're interested in it, here is a video that describes it.

If you're interested, I made a video of honing this razor on a Japanese natural sharpening stone. The video will be viewable late in the evening USA EST.

Thank you! I made them public. Thanks for that suggestion.

Yes, I 've seen it - so much content ๐Ÿ‘

Thank you so much! In my next one, I'm going to use a technique that isn't my own to show that, in the end, sharpening is just the shaping of metal. The end result is what matters, and the method you use can just be the one you prefer.

Looking forward to seeing it!
