SimpleX and Matrix are great alternatives.

Friendica lets you link your Matrix account.

I beg to differ as the amount of registered users is steadily increasing, the instance servers are much more stable and the third-party apps have added tons of features.

America doesn’t often follow international law, because they often get away with acting poorly.

When a country has the largest economy and the strongest military and does not have neighbours that are equal to it in power they tend swing their weight around.

Same thing can be seen with Russia, China and India.

I would imagine the most expensive part is the storage space perhaps Peertube instances can function as cooperatives for content creators where they pool their resources to kickstart their own independent video platform free from censorship and frivolous corporate takedowns.
