Killing Varen: Operation Inferno

  • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Zenith Boar Brush 31mm Γ— 50mm
  • Razor: Henkotsu Kamisori
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
  • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. Varen
  • Fragrance: Chatillon Lux Weinstrasse

Inferno, noun: from Latin, "between ferns".

Can't keep beating around the bush, I need to kill off some stuff, and some stuff is this tub of Varen. Until it's killed, my shaves will be using exclusively green parafernalia: Green Varen, green Weinstrasse frag, green Stirling brush, and razors with green fernishings. (Today, the kamisori with the green paracord grip wrap.)

I flattened the remaining soap to cover the bottom of the tub and I was left with a ring of death about the size of a FΓΌnfliber, so this might be over rather soon.

On a side note, I've also decide to start killing off my almost empty whiskey bottles, and yesterday was the death knell for this bottle of Cragganmore (the Chiseled Face Banana of single malts. u/J33pGuy13 would have approved).

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm G5 Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Tech (Z-4)
  • Blade: Dorco Prime (7)
  • Lather: Barrister & Mann - Cologne Russe - Soap
  • Post Shave: Pinaud - Clubman - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm
  • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - EdT

In solidarity with @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social , I sprayed on Varen EdT. I have a small collection of 10 or so frags, and Varen is likely my favorite one. So good.

There has been a lot of soap killing going on lately, and it makes me proud. I killed a tub yesterday and will kill another one tomorrow. DJ is working on killing Varen, and OldHiker killed his sample mug.

To me, this is one of the more exciting parts of the hobby.

  • Brush: Wolfman WRB2 Bronze w/AP Shave Co MiG 26mm Premium Hybrid

  • Razor: J.A. Henckels Friodur 14 Full Hollow Square Point

  • Lather: Elysian Soap Shop - El Dorado - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Rose - Toner

  • Aftershave: Elysian Soap Shop - El Dorado - Aftershave

  • Fragrance: Elysian Soap Shop - El Dorado - Eau de Parfum

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I like this soap and fragrance, but the scent strength is on the light side. More European than American in that way, though Elysian is based in Pennsylvania. In any case, I think that the owner of Elysian appears to be trying to produce a quality product and also distinguish herself, somehow, from others in the crowded wetshaving space. I have two of her products and consider both a very nice change of pace but not worthy of an Austere August run.

Love the Frio 14. Thanks go to @djundjila for being the enabler on this.

Monday, April 8, 2024: Joining the finishers

Reluctantly, I join the bloodlust that is engulfing this in the olden times so peaceful lemmy. I shall not rest until Marduk is killed.

Nice shave today; something in the Pitralon gives me a kind of fizzy feeling on the skin.

Have a good evening!

Pitralon gives me a kind of fizzy feeling on the skin.

For me it's a silky smooth feeling, similar to SW toners.

Apr 8, 2024 - Total Solar Eclipse 2024

  • Brush: Stirling Soap Co. Green & Ivory 24mm Synthetic 2-Band Synthentic Knot

  • Blade: Gillette Nacet [5]
  • Lather: Highland Springs Soap Company/Australian Private Reserve - Eclipse - Soap

We were a little worried we wouldn't get to see the eclipse due to cloud cover, but the clouds finally broke just in time to see totality.
