July 2, 2023 – Now Cows Harmed

  • Brush: Zenith 508A XL Boar (B35)
  • Razor: Ever Ready 1912
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE (1)
  • Lather: Argasol – Shave Soap
  • Post Shave: Epsilon – Blue Mediterranean

According to the Google translation of the packaging, this soap contains coconut oil, water, olive oil, glycerin, and argan oil with all oils organically farmed. The website boasts (via Google translation) that β€œits fine foam will make shaving a real moment of pleasure.”

This soap does make a very fine foam in the sense that it is thin and very bubbly. Perhaps this is actually a dried out brick of bubble bath instead of proper shave soap. The fact that I managed to get any kind of decent shave should be credited to the 1912 razor and brand new GEM PTFE blade.

Sometimes you have to make the best out of what you have. I had a similar situation with my Hurban Cowboy. I loved the fragrance, but the lather was mostly air. I'm using it as a bar soap, and realizing that it's also very drying.

A quick one today, it's actually been a long time since I've had time to shave properly. Some variation of this has been my go to for the past 10 years or so, although sometimes the brush changes.

  • Brush: WCS Tortoiseshell - Pure Badger
  • Razor: Kai Captain Excelia
  • Blade: Feather AC Professional Super

  • Prep: JazzRadio.com
  • Brush: Van der Hagen Boar
  • Lather: Chiseled Face Midnight Stag
  • Razor: Razorock Mission w/ Bulldog Handle
  • Blade: Derby Extra

I shaved normally - one pass ATG, followed by more lather and touch-ups. I'll add my voice to the chorus of positives on all four of the videos that reviewed this razor/head: This is a nice razor. It's more aggressive/efficient with more blade feel than my Gillettes, but that efficiency gave me a BBS with far less effort than I need with my Gillettes. I could feel hints of irritation when I got lazy and stopped riding the cap, but with a thoughtful hand this razor offers very satisfying results. That said, I've never used Derby blades before, and since I had two variables in this shave, I have no idea how much of the aggression/efficiency can be attributed to the razor, and how much to the blade. I'll use this blade in one of my Gillettes tomorrow, so then I'll know. I want to try this Razorock with one of my Wilkinson blades and see how that changes this razor's personality.

  • Lather: Sweyn Forkbeard Mango & Papaya Cream
  • Brush: Razorock Big Bruce 26mm
  • Razor: Leaf Twig
  • Blade: Gillette Wilkinson Sword (India) (7)

Great Razor, great blade, great shave.

This blade is just now starting to feel a little less sharp on shave 7. The other half still has another use in it so going to use this combo again tomorrow.
