nope, I'm the only one I know irl that uses any type of the fediverse

[–] SocialMediaRefugee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

I only saw him in concert once.

[–] 1482elmst@lemmy.world 5 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I'm still trying to figure out how to use it in the phone 😂

[–] AoxoMoxoA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

It takes a couple days . Trust me bro

[–] Grandwolf319@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago

Yes actually, sadly it was just a one time talk and I never spoke to him again.

[–] naught101@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Yep. Friend browses slrpnk.net regularly.

[–] frostprophet@infosec.pub 5 points 5 hours ago

Yep, my dad No discussion about it, we both just happened to join

[–] Saltarello@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

No. Should I ever mention enshittification or reducing exposure to "big tech" then usually tinfoil hat jokes at my expense ensue

[–] eletes@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago

No, I don't think I know anyone else that interacts with the fediverse. there are probably a handful that I know that are even aware of it.

I joined Lemmy when the API changes happened and tried to get a couple nerdy friends to join but they didn't bite

[–] win95@lemmy.zip 7 points 8 hours ago

My husband recently rediscovered Lenny again and a friend joined. They both find it hard to stay since it's pretty quiet and don't have many active niches.

Absolutely no one

[–] rockettaco37@lemmy.world 9 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Unfortunately I can barely find people online that use Lemmy

[–] quantenzitrone@lemmings.world 1 points 1 hour ago

just go to lemmy

there are bunch of lemmy users there

a few kbinners and other fediversers too

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 22 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

no. It's difficult to recommend it, "no it's good trust me, there's like none of the subs you like, and also you should go to the settings and block this list of words, also block these instances, and also do you know what a Tankie is?"

[–] AoxoMoxoA@lemmy.world -1 points 3 hours ago

List of instances to block please and why ?

[–] yonder@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago

If I talk with people about Lemmy, I'll usually replace "lemmy" with "this social media I use, kinda like Mastodon, but for Reddit instead of Twitter" as to avoid them joining lemmy.ml and thinking that that's the entirety of Lemmy.

[–] Punchshark@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm fairly new to lemmy and have no idea what you're talking about. Could you give a little breakdown?

[–] AdrianTheFrog@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

A lot of people block political keywords and related communities, and most niche subs aren't there

I have a few friends that are fed up with Microsoft and Google and other big tech. We've been degoogling and trying Linux together (errr, they have - I'm the grizzled Linux junkie they all reached out to for advice).

Most of them have tried all the different fediverse products and they've found homes here and there.

Some of them have graduated into self-hosting even. I find this bit wonderful, if it's unfortunate how far the industry had to rot before they considered the move.

[–] TimewornTraveler@lemm.ee 2 points 8 hours ago

it's been 2 days and i think i found like 2 "Yes" responses in the entire thread. one was a techy friend, one was vague, and any other hits were just family/friends.

it'd be cool if Fediverse got some more recognition but it's definitely way too niche for the normies right now

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 2 points 8 hours ago

Several friends yes.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago

I don't know anyone IRL that uses the fediverse. They just use everything else and then complain it's all owned by billionaires

Sorry, my mirror image got hold of the phone. He's not real, he doesn't count.

Nope, but I have had the thought that small-scale regional meet-ups could be fun.

On the one hand, smaller old-school forums do/did that sometimes and it can be really cool, if thinking in the spirit of the old internet.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I remember the infamous pictures from the Reddit meetup and good God, maybe not?

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 10 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

you can't say that and then not link the pictures!

This is the one I was thinking of, but there are several interesting ones. I guess I'm being an asshole, maybe they're all awesome. They certainly seem to be smiling and having fun, so I'm just really the dick here. But here's the picture. Fuck, it is just...a lot. I don't know. NSFW.

spoiler

[–] WhyJiffie@sh.itjust.works 7 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

well you have a point, it's certainly weird. they are smiling, ok, but why would you do that which a lot of them are doing

Why? They are drunk and having fun.
