Faced with relentless Republican attacks on reproductive freedom including efforts to give embryos and fetuses legal rights from the moment of conception, Democratic lawmakers in two states have recently introduced legislation that would ban men from ejaculating for purposes other than making babies, with some exceptions.

This is so idiotic. If this is the best plan the Democrats have, god help us.

Someone needs to let these performative politicians that they won't be able to logic their opponents out of wanting something that they didn't use logic to get to the point of wanting.

Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

What's that from?

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No it isn't.

this bill is an equally valid response to reproductive rights and a bodily autonomy being stolen and withheld from women.

If reproductive rights and bodily autonomy are being stolen and withheld from American women, then reproductive Rights and bodily autonomy should be stolen and withheld from American men.

It's posturing that allows their opponents to run ads about how they waste time with stupid fucking fake bills instead of actually trying to get shit done.

I know it might be hard to see now, but an eye for an eye is how we got here in the first place.

These joke bills do nothing of any value for anyone that understands that the bills aren't meant to be taken literally seriously, and only make idiots mad at "the demonrats" for "bein dumbasses while our country burns".

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

It would also be another opportunity for them to portray the left as hating men

"It's posturing"

If you believe this, then you believe that denying women reproductive Rights and bodily autonomy is posturing.

which it is not. it is real legislation that is harming and killing women.

If women are being denied bodily autonomy, then men should be denied bodily autonomy.

"stupid fucking fake bills"

these are "fake bills", women in the states do not have bodily autonomy or reproductive rights anymore because of real laws.

those same laws should apply to men if they are going to apply to women.

"an eye for an eye is how we got here in the first place."

incorrect.

how we got here now Is that Democrats didn't fight back against authoritarianism hard enough.

Democrats provided more rights for people, by inclusive legislation.

Republicans have taken away the rights of specific people by exclusive legislation.

and if their legislation is going to exclude women from bodily autonomy, then men should be excluded from bodily autonomy as well.

these are real laws in your country, women do not have rights to healthcare or bodily autonomy anymore because of real laws.

and if women do not have those rights, then men should not either.

I believe the bill they introduced isn't going to go anywhere, and I believe the people introducing the bill believe that also.

Talk about should/could all you want, what will happen is that these bills are laughed at and thrown away with no additional thought from the intended targets.

Anyways I don't really care to argue about obvious performative politics and optics and PR moves.

I am against the currently passed bills restricting women's right to choose. There is nothing I can do about it.

'I believe, i believe, ibelieve"

That's fine, but vision boards are for directing your focus, your beliefs aren't going to change anything.

That's what action is for.

in this case, gender equality legislation.

"obvious performative politics and optics and PR moves."

removing reproductive Rights, healthcare and bodily autonomy from an entire gender is not a stunt, it happened and is continuing to happen.

in the US, women do not have bodily autonomy and are denied basic healthcare.

women are literally dying because of conservative legislation that you are either unaware of or don't "believe" in.

men should be denied the same privileges.

Friend, I think we agree mostly. I'm not in a mindspace to argue with you on the places where we disagree. Thank you for your passion and your time in presenting your positions, and also consider asking people for clarification on their positions when it would appear that some is needed, as I believe we may have been talking over each other instead of properly communicating.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think so.

You're arguing about performance politics, well, I'm addressing direct practically effects of real-life legislation.

we're close, but as long as you think that the civil rights that have been taken away from American women are some kind of PR stunt, The legislation that has been killing women, we are not on the same page.

[–] ggppjj@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm done. Thank you again for your time.

[–] Varyk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago

you're welcome.

Fighting fire with fire is a very effective and important strategy in certain situations, like backburning to slow down or stop wildfires, which can be directly compared to the current conflagration of trump and other right-wing authoritarian extremists destroying American civil rights.

in this situation, women have had their rights taken away and do not have access to healthcare and bodily autonomy in the US.

If american women have had their rights taken away and do not have access to healthcare and bodily autonomy, American men should likewise not have either.

[–] systemglitch@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

It appears to be the best plan they have atm, yep.

"according to an official artificial intelligence summary of the proposal" thanks for doing your job.

My ejaculate is tired of being used and exploited, it demands human rights and dignity.

America appears to be broken. ⚠️

Always has been.

If the intention here was to show conservatives how unreasonable it is to grant legal rights to a fetus then I'd say it failed miserably and achieved the exact opposite; further evidence to spread around in the right-wing circles to demonstrate how out of touch the "libs" are. Well done - it's as if they don't even want to win elections anymore.

Getting rid of the laws won’t help you creating new laws won’t help. Getting rid of these 90-year-old Republicans who have been sitting in an office since the 60s would solve everything

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Riiight because the 42 years old creep republican Gaetz wouldn't pass a terrible law?

It's republicans not old people.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I forgot about Gaetz, but was thinking about Chuck Grassley, Mitch McConnell, Diane Feinstein, and Jim Rush, who are all somewhere between 80 and 1000 years old

[–] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dianne Feinstein is very dead.

[–] Placebonickname@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

Yeah she was 90 when she died.

At this point the ancient people are the most likely to flip if certain lines are crossed. They were there before the current politics and don't have a future to risk. Plus decades of ego.

The young guys aren't even going to consider voting with dems no matter what the situation. They all recently went into office being onboard with everything.

Democratic lawmakers in two states have recently introduced legislation that would ban men from ejaculating for purposes other than making babies

So begins my lonely life of crime.

I’m probably alone in this but IMO this is a pretty good critique of GOP abortion logic.

What is their plan if any of these bills pass? The abortion bans weren't about anything beyond control of women, and these laws would be twisted to control men - a goal for when the population is amenable.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 0 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Aren't all US residents legally women now? So women having erections?

So this means only trans women have access to contraception? I'm so lost

[–] ZMonster@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

While observers have questioned the seriousness of these bills—and with Somani and others giving nods to a famous number in Monty Python's 1979 black comedy The Life of Brian—they come at a nadir for reproductive freedom in the United States.

Fake News! This is the shit I cannot tolerate. The media LIES and you AUTOMATONS just eat it up like hungry little HIPPOS!! Alex Jones was RIGHT!!! This is some deep state levels of propaganda!! The "famous" "number" is Every Sperm is Sacred, and it's from Monty Python's 1983 musical sketch comedy The Meaning of Life!!!!!!!¡!!! AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THE RULES?!?!??
