Summary

The incoming Trump administration plans to intensify ICE operations in major U.S. cities, particularly targeting "sanctuary" jurisdictions, to arrest unauthorized immigrants after Trump’s inauguration.

Sources indicate large-scale raids, including in areas like Chicago, as part of a promised immigration crackdown.

Biden-era enforcement guidelines, which focused on serious criminals and recent border-crossers, are expected to be rescinded, making nearly all undocumented immigrants subject to arrest.

Incoming "border czar" Tom Homan also aims to revive workplace raids and expand collateral arrests during operations, signaling a significant shift in immigration policy.

Sources say? It was a major campaign platform that most of the voters chose. Now they live with it.

unfortunately they are prioritizing areas their voters do not live int so the ones living with it won't be their people.

Are they going to raid Mar-A-Lago and look for illegals?

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

"the only legal illegal immigrants are my illegal immigrants"

"They're one of the good ones"

Are they going to deport Elon and Melania? Of course not.

[–] futatorius@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

It's not illegal if the president does it.

Man, what a way to unify our country. This sure will make our country great again, won't it?

What an embarrassment...

Just think of how low our grocery prices will be after... checks notes... the immigrants are rounded up and put in concentration camps... I'm certain there's concept of a plan in there somewhere, just you wait!

They'll be paid even less as prison laborers and a shred of those savings will be passed onto the consumer! Promises made, promises kept! Lol

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 week ago

And of course they will only go after proven illegals and they would never ever just do this

I fully expect this to be a media spectacle rather than a cohesive policy. Do you think they're going to be raiding farms in Florida and Texas too?

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It's just part of the same propaganda showing dem cities as unsafe. While crime per capita remains highest in those deep red rural areas.

[–] protist@mander.xyz 9 points 1 week ago

The Republican narrative in Texas is that Austin is a crime-ridden hellhole, when in reality it's the safest large city in Texas and safer than many much smaller, deep red cities like Beaumont, San Angelo, Abilene, and Bryan/College Station. This is based on the violent crime rate

Do you have proof of this? Would love to have it as a reference if I ever need/want to make this point.

Of course not, they want to attack working people with their kids, enslave the prisoners, hand the kids off to traffickers, or worse, to fundamentalists for forcible adoption.

Someone should be handing out pistols to undocumented people.

I’m assuming there will be large fines to the employers in these workplace raids?

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 5 points 1 week ago

I haven't reminded anyone to !resist@fedia.io recently. This seems like a good time.
