i can see already that it's going to be 4 years of 'complaining'. Already this morning trump has been "slammed", "burned", and "blasted" by various government officials and office holders.

I think I'll just not read any news for 4 years.

[–] donalonzo@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This won't be over in 4 years.

The news stories about Trump's actions will slow down but the gap between real wages and living wages will keep widening. Has been for generations now.

The rules of American democracy are rigged, use that rage to change the game. I've been listening to Steve Bannons war room and there is a strong concern that both parties are owned by elites. There is a nascent solidarity that is there, it just needs some one to unite it.

Before the election I was so certain the doomscrolling would soon be at an end.

You're about 2 days early to start moonposting

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 3 days ago

The moon was still up there before the final three days. This one's been there for over two months!

feeling this one w/ the protonmail news today :(

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

A month ago, I was very close to starting a company subscription, mostly for emails. Ended up going with Hetzner where I've got my server anyway and their email service is 100 accounts for the price of (their web hosting service), whereas gsuite and proton wanted about the same amount for every user.

It's not a significant amount for single digit users, but I'm just glad it's not going to someone publicly supporting Trump.

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Same with web.de/GMX in Germany. I never quite understood why people are willing to pay so much money for email subscriptions when they can get whole webhosting packages for half the price. For some its probably lazyness and for others its the lack of knowledge that webhosting includes emailsy

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

For me it was the lack of knowledge tbh. I did already have a Hetzner VPS, but that doesn't come with emails - I had to also add in the web hosting, which I'm currently not using (yet).

[–] Spezi@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In theory, you could install Plesk, cpanel or anything similiar to easily manage emails on a VPS, but this comes with all the administrative tasks of keeping your server up to date.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago

I was very close to installing MailCow, but I realized it might not be the best idea tbh

[–] FeelThePower@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

wait what happened? I haven't seen anything

Now I'm wondering if I should switch or wait to see if he's ousted.

On the one hand, and least it's a Swiss non-profit organization now that's open sourced on the code.

On the other hand, the CEO support JD Fucking Vance and now none of the data feels secure despite what they say about their tech.

The most charitable interpretation is that he's pulling an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" move, but considering Proton AG is located in Switzerland, and not the USA, that would be a profoundly stupid move since Big Tech doesn't have the same influence in Switzerland as it does in the USA.

The crypto shit was already making me wary in the first place too, though knowing Proton's previous financial difficulties I kinda understood why they might make a paranoid decision to have a crypto back up.

At this rate, I'm really gonna have to host my own server, aren't I?

I think instead I'll wait and see if they sack him as CEO. I'll give them 3 months to respond and decide while I start backing everything up for migration.

[–] preussischblau@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Switzerland is not in the EU, just fyi.

[–] Lumisal@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Yup, momentary lapse in memory. Thanks for the correction

[–] Renacles@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Jesus, I'm glad I don't use my proton account.

[–] IDKWhatUsernametoPutHereLolol@lemmy.dbzer0.com 38 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What presidency? This is just a bad dream, it'll all be over soon, we'll wake up, and everything would be back to normal. Right?

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 21 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Sure. But when you wake up you'll be several years older, on a ventilator, and handcuffed to your hospital bed until you set up a payment plan.

[–] inv3r5ion@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 2 days ago

As if things would be any different with the democrats.
