Downside: Deadly virus that can be transmitted through the air and Dr. Oz in charge of public health

Upside: Blame Canada memes

Nah. We get RFK Jr. and his worm eaten brain to get us out of this

Dr. Oz is in charge of killing the elderly.

Keep it in check, Canada. (nervous laughter) We're not equipped to deal with that right now.

And time for the USA to ban vaccines and infectious disease research, thanks to RFK Jr.

[–] nogooduser@lemmy.world -3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

They’re not going to stop people doing their own research into infectious diseases and vaccines though so it’ll be fine.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

They're not going to stop it, just seriously disincentivize it. Pulling billions of dollars of research funding and making it doubtful whether any developed vaccine can be sold in the USA will have a huge effect on the ability of academic institutions to do research and the willingness of corporations to do so.

[–] nogooduser@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Sorry, I guess that I needed a “/s” judging by the downvotes.

I was referring to how anti-vaccers all “do their own research” which generally involves no actual research at all.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Ah yes, I misunderstood, sorry. I'll leave my other comment because it's still a serious concern, and there will be people who think all research should be privately funded.

Half of Americans have a reading level below 6th grade. I'm sure they are up on virology though.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

You wanna know what? You got a problem with Canada Gooses, you got a problem with me, and I suggest you let that one marinate.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 week ago

As long as it will not mutate to be transmissible between humans, I'm not that worried.

When it does however...
