Pro tip : you can also uninstall Windows by installing Linux over it.

Simply fire up the garbage disposal and throw your SSD in

“I’m actually really excited about how nerdy we got on the security architecture,” says David Weston, vice president of enterprise and OS security at Microsoft

🙄

...I mean it actually sounds quite good? That's probably better secured than your password manager which has a very similar risk profile.

... It should have been built like that from the start though! And this relies on Microsoft never watering it down so they can skim user data off the top....

Maximum cringe

It must be opt-in for EU market.

[–] hikaru755@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Reading the article, it seems like it will actually be opt-in for everyone

Oxymoron. "More secure spyware"

They can overhaul it and resecure it all they want but it doesn't matter because no one trusts them, because they've been giving you a plethora of reasons not to for decades. And it would take them decades to earn it back, if they actually tried.

And it's impossible to make the data truly secure. If a bag actor gets in, GG everything.

[–] SGG@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yep, Gucci and Louis Vuitton on the prowl.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

Shit... Watch out for bad actors too.

"Uninstall"

Sure....

its an improvement because now for all you know it appears to uninstall the feature for now.

Is there an equivalent to godwin's law for Linux users? If you don't have someone mention ditching windows you'll never think to do it yourself

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 2 points 4 days ago

Without Linux users advocating for Linux it would never reach the average consumer. We don't have a marketing department we have to grassroots that shit.

It's a bit grating as it's preaching to the choir here, but people mainly do not know you can replace the OS, or frankly what an OS is.

You really do have to evangelize for change to make this even occur to people.

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 days ago

I remember back in high school a gal was having computer trouble and even asked about it, she said her computer ran Microsoft office. Like yeah, people don't really know what an os is.

To be fair, I was in the camp of "put a sock in it" until I reached a point of "alright FINE, I'll give it a go" and now I'm joining the choir on it, desktop Linux is a dream.

[–] Kowowow@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

Ya I got nothing against linux and I'm going to switch my old laptop once get the time and a flash drive small enough but I find it's practically like the reddit meme of the upvotes dropping on the guy's head

[–] Wogi@lemmy.world 1 points 6 days ago

It's called SudoGetLinux's law
