Reading after edibles is so fun though. I mean everything is fun but maybe you haven’t tried it

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 53 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I find when I'm stoned it'll take me half an hour to read a single paragraph because I either get distracted and start thinking about something else mid sentence, or I'll read the same paragraph several times because I forgot what I just read. The ADD is real lol

[–] Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz 9 points 3 months ago (2 children)

What happens if you also take some ADHD medication at the same time? Will your head implode into a black hole or something?

[–] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 4 points 3 months ago

I dunno, I haven't taken any of that stuff since I was 12 or so (cept one time, I helped my buddy clean the shit out of his apartment)

[–] rhombus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

For me, if I’m only a little high while on my meds then I am able to read way faster. It’s like the calming effects of weed + focus from my meds lets me just fly through books. If I get actually high, then my meds don’t seem to have any affect anymore, and I just stare at one paragraph forever.

[–] Hamartiogonic@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 months ago

Sounds like the right kind is microdosing of weed could be used to make the optimal study drug combo.

[–] ElectricAirship@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 months ago

Same! I find that things like listening to music way more fun. Oddly enough the songs feel like they last longer too

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 30 points 3 months ago (1 children)

But have you ever read on weeed?

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

Jon Stewart being a stoner and Bob Saget being a coke-head were both such fantastic casting choices.

[–] Godort@lemm.ee 22 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I hate reading after I've taken an edible.

My mind tends to wander super hard and I constantly get that thing where I read a paragraph word by word, but dont comprehend a larger meaning which then forces me to go back and re-read the paragraph. Repeat ad nauseum

[–] Emmie@lemm.ee 8 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It is harder but I read my comfy books I memorised almost already so it isn’t a problem if I lose track and regain it page later. for me the visualisations when reading get much more immersive and alive if I can get past the suddenly loud narrator voice, it’s pretty funny

This only works depending on how baked you are though. I worked for a major metropolitan public library system a long time ago, and one time a dude wandered in smelling heavily of weed, and wearing only one shoe. He came up to the circulation desk and asked to order a pizza. When informed that it was a library and didn't have pizza, he blinked and looked around, and upon seeing all the shelves of books, he said "Oh.", and then turned around and left. To this day I never know if he ever found some pizza or his other shoe.

To be fair, that's on you. If libraries had pizzas, I would start visiting them.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

That’s how you get oily page corners.

[–] technomad@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 months ago

Worth it, maybe?

For a time, while I was in court trying to get custody of my son, I was only given like 2 hours of parental time with him, once a week. Drop-off point was an hour from my home, so there wasn't really much I could do with him apart from go to parks (in the summer) and the library. It was a life saver for just giving me time to be a Dad. Public libraries are one of the greatest things in human society, just a place you can go to exist as a person. Almost nothing is expected of you apart from wearing clothes, shoes, don't masturbate where people can see you, and respect the books.

[–] worldeater@lemmy.ml 23 points 3 months ago

don’t masturbate where people can see you

[–] bassomitron@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago

🧐

[–] KammicRelief@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Is there a story to that? You can't just leave us hanging.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Yeah, I got shared custody and I see my son all the time, life is alot better now.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 38 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Society doesn’t exist for the sole benefit of the upstanding and idealized. I want libraries to exist for those striving to gain education for self betterment yes, I want them to exist as places of entertainment and existence for those down on their luck as well, but also a place where a person who is intoxicated in a way where they aren’t causing a disturbance can embrace the beauty of the world is also a valuable function.

And shit, I wish there could be weed and acid/shrooms days at zoos. I’d love to trip at a zoo

[–] isles@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

A corollary to "everything is a dildo, if you're brave enough" would be "every day at the zoo is an acid/schroom day, if you're brave enough"

[–] Nouveau_Burnswick@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Every day at the planetarium is definately weed day.

I saw recently my local library has started to prohibit kids from simply hanging out at the library. Not all are the same.

Edit: context.

[–] MentalEdge@sopuli.xyz 21 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (3 children)

That is super fucked. Going to the library, grabbing a stack of comics, and then settling down in a quiet corner to read them was one of my happy places as a kid.

I had a library card, but I didn't bother checking out stuff I could just read during the hours I hung out at the library. And the place was comfy, quiet heaven.

[–] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

As someone who grew up in an unhappy home, I feel this.

[–] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 3 months ago

That letter makes it sound like sitting in the corner and reading stuff in the library is fine.

It seems to suggest that there are some shitty parents trying to use it as a free day care and letting their shitty kids trash the place, which only makes things more difficult for the kids trying to use it like a library.

Our local libraries literally encourage kids to loiter there. They have tons of programs, activities, and events throughout the week aimed at younger and older kids alike. There's even sections dedicated to all demographics with toys for younger kids and anime/videogames/,etc for older kids.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago

That’s how it should be. As a childless 30 year old I want kids hanging out at libraries. Ideally I’d like them reading and discussing literature, but just being somewhere that they have access to information is better than not

[–] ShaggySnacks@lemmy.myserv.one 13 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I think people are getting angry at the symptom and not cause.

The cause is that children and teens don't have anywhere to go, so they all went to the library. I imagine you have different groups of children/teenagers interacting with each other causing problems.

Instead of getting mad at the library, we all should be getting mad at community for not providing other options for children/teenagers to go. Places like skate parks, community centers, drop in programs, etc. places were children/teenagers can go hang out free.

Edit: Cleaned up mobile typing errors

[–] OCATMBBL@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Time to get active in your community to fix that. Whoever came up with that policy should be fired.

[–] jorp@lemmy.world 9 points 3 months ago

Let's not ignore that they seem to have an issue they're trying to address with limited resources, also give them more resources

Lmao I've done this same thing at my old uni. I went to the second floor and asked to look at the language-learning books. Sat down, browsed a few, and tried the learning method on one for a bit to see if I'd like it for an hour, then got up and left. The girl at the reception was so confused and told her coworker in complete surprise as I left.

I think I'll go find that book online now that I think about it.

[–] GoosLife@lemmy.world 17 points 3 months ago (1 children)

... Is it not normal where you guys are to go to the library to read or study? Don't they have like reading corners there?

I'm a simple man. I see a possum spouting truth and I upvote.

[–] deuleb_biezelbob@programming.dev 7 points 3 months ago

There is not an possum emoji. I am sad.

me right now

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I literally just finished a chapter of a book whilst toking a spliff, and then I see this meme lol.

I'm reading Blue Rage, Black Redemption if anyone is curious. I think I'm reaching the end, so I'm up for any recommendations perhaps autobiographical. The one I enjoyed before this was the NOFX Hepatitis Bathtub and Other Stories.

[–] Wolf314159@startrek.website 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Have you read "South of the Pumphouse" by Les Clay pool? It's not non-fiction, but it was the first book I thought of when I saw NOFX in your comment.

Does "The Electric Kool aid Acid Test" count as non-fiction?

[–] JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 months ago

I haven't read either, however I do respect Les so I'll be giving that a shot.

Definitely interested in the latter, Google says it's non fiction. Thank you! Very interesting choices I haven't heard of :) I'll be... Obtaining them soon.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemm.ee 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I agree with princess opossum
