  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Tuxedo Synthetic
  • Razor: Chiseled Face - Legacy Raw Titanium (#69)
  • Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (3)
  • Lather: Proraso - Red - Soap
  • Post Shave: Aqua Velva - Ice Blue - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Mood Indigo - Balm

Not the best shave, but it'll do. I wonder if I gave the lather too much water? It seemed fine.

Aqua Velva++;

Cheap and considerably cheerful!

[–] walden 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

If I had to pick one commonly available aftershave, I'd pick Brut or Old Spice over Aqua Velva. That's not to say I don't enjoy it, though!

[–] gcgallant 2 points 4 months ago

Oh, I would pick those too. @djundjila's Brut trifecta today really has me thinking of having Brut shaves.

Fougère Friday

  • Brush: Zenith 506B MB (27 mm × 55 mm Manchurian badger)
  • Razor: Böker Abalone
  • Lather: Boendoebaard Woesteling
  • Post Shave: Brut Original
  • Fragrance: Brut Original

I was talking to u/putneycj about live points on straight razors and how they can be tricky when learning to shave with a straight yesterday, so I felt like using my pretty perilously pointy Böker Abalone, ... aaaaaaand promptly pricked myself in the cheek 😅.

Funny how that can still happen after countless shaves with this razor. @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social will point out that I could/should mute the point, and he's right, but somehow this feature and the challenge that comes with it amuse me, so I'll keep it live.

Woesteling is a Brut dupe, so this shave is almost a trickhole. I was called out for smelling overly grandpa-y by my wife, but on second sniff it was deemed acceptable. I count that in the "win" column.

Oh, and I think I haven't enjoyed a brush as much as I enjoy this Zenith Manchurian since early 2023 when I broke in the MOAR BOAR. This little lather monster has a wonderful face feel. A bit of scritch, just enough to be there and feel nice, a good backbone, an ergonomic handle. Noice.

Well, some people need the adrenaline rush of living dangerously :)

I love the idea of a Brut trickhole. Brut, itself, is just so nostalgic for me. I just learned that Wholly Kaw's La Fougère Parfaite is a dupe of Fabergé Brut and I am a big fan of Sri's work! Now we need the proper alliterative day for this. [Friday is too obvious for LFP]

[–] djundjila 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm coming up completely blank for alliterations. We will need help from @PorkButtsNTaters666@sub.wetshaving.social, he always finds something

[–] PorkButtsNTaters666 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

That's a difficult one 😰

A lot of languages have Friday starting with a 'P' (e.g., Hungarian 'Péntek'), but that's unfortunately the best I have.

Thanks for trying!

Finally Full Cerberus Fougère Trifecta

I regretted not getting the CF EdP when I had the chance. With EldrormR's help, I've corrected my folly, and I finally got to use the full set today.

Happy Fougère Friday!

[–] gcgallant 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Do you think they will bring that back? Both Cerberus and Cerberus Fougere were such hits.

[–] sahenders 3 points 4 months ago

I've been hoping they would, but who knows at this point.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This was one of the closest 2-pass shaves I've had in a long time. So close to a 3-pass shave it really makes me wonder what a 3-pass shave with this edge would be like. This Puma has my coticule edge on it and this shave tested my second "push" on edge sharpness with this razor. The coticule I'm using I've had for a couple of years, but I have never determined its limits. Coticules used for finishing are slow, typically, and I went way beyond what I would normally do to get a razor sharp. Boy did it pay off on this stone! I'm completely certain that this edge is too sharp for a lot of straight shavers, but I loved it!

Oh, Heather is an amazing fougère. Perfect for a Friday :)

Have a great weekend!

[–] djundjila 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

This is giving me coticule thrill

[–] gcgallant 3 points 4 months ago

Each one has a personality. Others I've had have not been great finishers. I bought this one from Keith Johnson here in the states and asked him specifically about finishing. In your area of the world, getting a terrific Ardennes coticule should be pretty easy. Naturals other than Jnats can be a lot of fun to get into and much more affordable.
