Fougère Royale Friday

  • Brush: Zenith B21 (XL chrome-plated copper handle, 28 mm knot with 50 mm loft)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 14 (8/8", extra hollow ground, stainless steel)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Fern
  • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co Varen
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth/Declaration Grooming/Noble Otter Cerberus Fougère

A bit of a Fougère bomb this morning. Fern and Varen get along well, and that's a good thing because both of these are bold. I'll give them some time to calm down and put on Cerberus Fougère before heading out.

As a reminder not to get complacent, the Frio 14 nicked my earlobe 🤦. More like a nibble.

As a reminder not to get complacent

One of the things I love about straight razor shaving is that you must be mindful. I haven't nicked myself yet, but I have raised a thin pink line where the razor would have cut me had I used little more pressure.

You haven't nicked yourself ever? In almost 400 open blade shaves?

I'm impressed!

I meant this month. However, I very rarely nick myself and I can't remember a nick that did not close during my cold water rinse. Recall that while you can do a slurry lather shave in 5 minutes, it takes me 6½. I'm quite deliberate with the edge and try to never rush it.

Ah, that makes sense 😅

I'm quite deliberate with the edge and try to never rush it.

I never rush it 95% of the time, that's it 😄

I never rush it 95% of the time

And, I suspect that you have far more distractions than I do :)

I don't know, it seems to me that you like to stay busy, too 😉
