Eighteenth Day of TabOKtoberfest

  • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts Tabak Oridjinal
  • Razor: Henkotsu Kamisori
  • Lather: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Post Shave: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original
  • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz – Tabac Original

Same setup as yesterday and I feel already a lot less awkward using the kamisori. Also, no neck stabbing today, which is nice, and overall DFS. The Stank Splash® feedback reminded me that I still have ways to go regarding a light hand with that tiny handle, but hey, we are making progress.

I think I've figured out the overall geometry of all three passes, but that thin handle makes controlling the kamisori difficult and a bit precarious. It feels like it's always close to rolling between my fingers. I assume this could get better just with more practice, practice, practice, but I'll first try to find some time to wrap that handle for better grip. Although I am a bit concerned that it is going to be difficult to avoid moisture on a wrapped handle.

Very impressive that you're taking this on. There have to be positions where manipulation of the razor is more with fingers and wrist than we're used to with a western straight. I would think some sort of handle wrap would be a requirement.

I would think some sort of handle wrap would be a requirement.

I'm also thinking it'll make handling easier. Unfortunately, the pretty paracord I've ordered for the wrap didn't arrive today, so I'll be using a straight in the meanwhile.
