Because Republicans have known since W Bush that demographics side with Democrats, so Republicans are giving up on voting to maintain power.

The original plan was to bring in Hispanics and other minorities into the party as a way to stop the demographic loss, but since 2008 the party had shown itself to be filled with a ton of racists who are happy with taking their mask off.

So if you have a party for with people who know they can't win in the future in a few election, they'll accept making it an unfair election.
