MODERATORS

!privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

After the original mod being inactive for so long, i've asked the db0 mods for me to take this community. So, welcome back!

Rules

This includes the instance rules of dbzer0, which can be tl;dr'd to: no right wing nutjobs or tankies are allowed. As for the community rules:

  1. Be nice
  2. No bigotry/prejudice
  3. No tankies/right wingers
  4. Don't promote proprietary software
  5. Stay on topic
  6. No crypto
  7. Don't be a smartass and try to game the system, we'll know if you're breaking the rules when we see it!
  8. If you post news exclusive to a country please name it. (This isn't a bannable rule, but just a recommendation :) )

Why not:

Lemmy.ml

.ml is infamous for banning pretty much anyone they please. This community, while left libertarian, will allow conflicting viewpoints.

Lemmy.world

.world is too big, and has centralized a decentralized community. It simply does not fit, and is a net negative for the fediverse as a whole.

It also blocks VPNs, which goes against the essence of a privacy community.

Why dbzer0

Dbzer0 is stable, relaxed with the rules, and perfect for a topic like this.

I feel like I fit around the anarchist end of the spectrum, but ....and hear me out, it's been an eye opener (sorta) seeing the folk on .ml fighting super hard to get everyone to agree that Trump really is the best thing to happen to America since...well... Trump. Tbh, not seen many folk from hexbear lately, pretty sure .ca defedded from them.

Even before them Trumpeting this last little while, I really couldn't understand how they figured they'd be winning people over to their views with how they behave. Seems counterintuitive to insult people and hope they'll maybe change their mind the umpteenth time you swear at them and make what honestly seems like often random quotes that only loosely fit the conversation.

I get that and fuck them, but it's pretty odd for a mod to be banning people for their instance (even if its guaranteed for them to be a tankie) but it'll be used as ammo against us, most of the time I see people talking about blocking hexbear there's some dipshit that has to say "god forbid your shitlib views get challenged with morality" Like no. You're an asshole that's why nobody likes you, not because you're a communist (many of us are too).

And I asked for the members opinions and it was decided to let them be

I always work with a policy of let folk show their stripes, regardless of where they say they land on whatever spectrum. But after soooooo many bad faith arguments, strawmen and whataboutisms, I'm honestly not too surprised.

And if it's a majority of members saying that that's the rule they want, I'm not sure anyone really has a right to say otherwise. It's not discrimination against anything other than a majority of shit disturbers coming from there.

Yeah, i have absolutely no expectations from hexbear users. In fact, i know they are POS tankies, all of them, but i don't feed their persecution fetish. As long as they behave, they'll be strictly tolerated.

And if it's a majority of members saying that that's the rule they want, I'm not sure anyone really has a right to say otherwise. It's not discrimination against anything other than a majority of shit disturbers coming from there.

I mean yeah, ultimately it's our community not mine, so there's no room for argument there. I do wish dbzer0 was defederated from them though, it would spare me the headache of having to keep an eye on them.
