tldr - donors got tax deductions so less taxes were collected ipso facto it cost more of your tax money for real things. the logic is a bit of a stretch but I don't think completely without merit.

Not really. A subsidy is money dispersed, not money never collected.

yeah that is why I said it was a stretch. The headline is definately wrong but I get what they are saying. It is totaly sensationalist headline though since they know a real one would not get clicks. Its one reason I give the tldr so folks don't need to click.
