Apr 16, 2024 - Tea Tuesday: Kensei

  • Brush: Wild West Brushworks Samurai 26mm Timberwolf Synthentic Knot
  • Razor: Aylsworth Razors Drakkant Plus
  • Blade: Gillette Platinum [4]
  • Lather: Gentleman’s Nod - Kensei - Soap (C4+)
  • Post Shave: Gentleman’s Nod - Kensei - Splash

Kensei opens very similarly to Musashi, but the notes in the dry down are where Kensei departs from is counterpart and really comes into it's own.

I was reminded this morning that the C4+ base is outstanding!

Rating: 4.5/5

Edit: corrected base

I've been looking at this one. GN touts it as a sort of follow up for Musashi. What's your take on a comparison?

It's part of GN's Origins series, which is supposed to feature "a fragrance developed around a single note or accord."

My initial reaction was that they are too similar, but after the shave, I think I came around to it being a distinct, complex scent. I probably need to do a shave with both products side-by-side to get a better perspective.

I tried and liked Musashi and liked the delicate complexity of it. I like the description of the top notes of Kensei even better I think.
