So I've run my own show for just about ten years now. We've never had ads or sponsorships of any kind other than a Patreon plug at the very end.

When I go out into the world and listen to other podcasts I'm perpetually annoyed at the lengthy, frequent ad-breaks. I don't mind being reminded to engage or click on their link or go to a show's Ko-Fi page, but a two minute dollar shave club or AG1 ad is just too much. And, honestly, the amount of advertising dollars some shows take makes me question their integrity just a bit. I know it might be a bit old-fashioned to think that, but I can't help it.

What are you favorite sponsorship-free, ad-free podcasts?

How do you ensure privacy and security on cloud platforms in an age of compromised encryption, backdoors, and AI-driven hacking threats to encryption and user confidentiality?

Let’s say you’ve created a film and need to securely upload the master copy to the cloud. You want to encrypt it before uploading to prevent unauthorized access. What program would you use to achieve this?

Now, let’s consider the worst-case scenario: the encryption software itself could have a backdoor, or perhaps you're worried about AI-driven hacking techniques targeting your encryption.

Additionally, imagine your film is being used to train AI databases or is exposed to potential brute-force attacks while stored in the cloud.

What steps would you take to ensure your content is protected against a wide range of threats and prevent it from being accessed, leaked, or released without your consent?

I've noticed both medical dramas and police dramas rely heavily on Californian legal practice, because Hollywood. For example, I just watched the episode of Doc (it's literally just called Doc) where a doctor saved someone on the "DNR list" and almost got suspended, and so here I was thinking "the patient's perspective would never fly in my environment". Of course, though, the US (and definitely California) are not the whole world. So I was wondering, what's an episode of a medical/police drama you could think of where, in your legal environment, the characters would seem crazy for diving into the topic of how they did?

So, I love Spinach but apparently they are sprayed with a lot of insecticides to repel crop eating insects and this rules out Spinach for me. How worried should I be about the use of fertilizer for crop production?

P.S: I have been hearing a lot about sweet potatoes and how they are the perfect food but I was wondering how those were grown, do they use a lot of harmful fertilizer or anything along those lines?

Thanks for all your answers guys :)

I have a couple weeks worth of speedtest tracker data and I have no clue as to how to unpack it. Should I go through it with statistics tools or something else?

I usually assume when Europeans complain about American beers, they just are complaining about our "domestic" beers like Bud Light, Coors, PBR, etc. which makes sense, they are our bottom shelf beers.

I recently chatted with someone at a party who said "no, all American beers are bad" including microbrewery beers.

I've never been to Europe so I wouldn't know, but I do like my Left Handed Milk Stout, NWPAs, and hell even the hipstered out IPAs.

Are these what y'all are referencing?

I remember some 20-30 years ago you would sometimes hear about an artist (usually musician, or a group thereof) being sellouts, or having sold out. This of course in a pejorative way, as this was the most heinous of crimes an artist could ever commit against their fan base.

However, I can't recall having heard this term for at least a couple of decades. Has the term been replaced with something else? Is it more accepted? Or is it simply so hard to make it nowadays that the concept of "selling out" is basically just synonymous with making a living?

Are there any modern examples of this and I simply missed the online chatter about it?

There is this girl I like, in my dancing class. I want to know if we connect on other levels. I don't want to straight up ask her what her hobbies are. I want to make it feel natural. Believe me, this makes sense within the context.

We usually talk a little bit before the class starts. So that's really the best opportunity to ask.

Anyone know the details? I'll start a new one if I can.

EDIT: It's Aroostook County, ME. I haven't bought the house yet, mainly because of this nonsense.

I know this is weird, but someone whom I follow, I recently discovered had an OF.

Now I'm not knocking them for it. It's just that everything they present to the public is the complete opposite of someone whom (purely in my opinion) would never do something like that.

I dunno it's just something odd I wasn't expecting.

*Edit: Fuck it. It's Alice Winterhold. There. Are you happy now? Perhaps you'll understand now...

We reached the point (some time ago) where the save icon being a floppy disk makes absolutely no sense to anyone born after a certain time. We could choose a more modern media format and use an icon of that instead, but we would run into the same problem once that media becomes obsolete.

What is a good icon for the function of saving something that can easily be understood by anyone regardless of language or the march of time?

Edit: I know it's not really an answerable question and is hard but the question is what would you come up with if tasks to design an icon. Given the constraints of the question, what are your best shots at coming up with something that fills the requirements and why do you thing it would work?

I get that the point is inflation, but why eggs? If they went to $12/dozen, it would cost me like $4 extra dollars per week.

I'm looking for the right lemmy community to ask a question about high quality USB-C or thunderbolt cables.

After my 3rd replacement Anker cable usb-c cable I'd really like to get cables that can last a few hundred cycles and I need a recommendation. What community can I ask that in?
