where to buy unusual bits? I already have all the common ones but I want a separate set for all the weird/uncommon ones (upload.wikimedia.org)

Can I implement the solution to this problem myself easily? Or do I need to recompile something, more complicated? (gitlab.gnome.org)

The issue in the link already has a proposed solution (as far as I understand), but I don't understand how I can "use" that. Can I just copy-pasta the code? Or is it more complicated?
