  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/26mm Maggard SHD
  • Razor: Wolfman Guerilla (Gen 1)
  • Blade: Bolzano Superinox (Germany) (4)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Oro Valley - Soap
  • Post Shave: Summer Break Soaps - Woodshop - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Goodfellow & Co. - Face Lotion - Kelp & Sea Mineral

Excellent shave. The OG Guerilla always impresses me when I use it.

I de-knotted this brush handle yesterday (it used to have a Wolf Whiskers "Super Plush", but Peter set it too deep for my preferences. I love synthetic knots, and it was a really nice one, but I couldn't get behind the low loft.

I'm auditioning replacements, and this badger knot has been sitting in my medicine cabinet for a couple of years so figured I'd try it out. It was sold to me as "unknown", but I'm pretty sure it's a Maggard SHD. It has similarities to my other SHD knots, but there is some variation between all of them.

This one fits tight, so it stays in without adhesive. I wasn't completely sold on it, but since this was the maiden voyage for the knot I'll give it some time to break in before making a decision. Ultimately, I predict it'll end up with a Maggard Synthetic in it :-).

Well, I took another look, and I don't think neovim is for me. I looked at installing one of the dependencies, and the dependency had dependencies, and I don't know how to install any of it. Oh well!

The spreadsheet I use is really easy. I can do it on my phone while I'm traveling, too.

[–] walden 1 points 1 week ago

Right now I have all of my soaps, blades, etc. in a Google Sheets. I can copy/paste, or export to whatever they allow. Maybe I'll tinker with it later.

[–] walden 12 points 1 week ago

Oh this is great. I can't wait to see how it turns out. I truly hope there are some confused idiots when it switches over, although they'll probably believe everything and not recognize that it's satire.

I took a quick look at sotd.nvim and I might be deterred by the json formatting. Json is great and everything, but that would be pretty tedious for me!

Is there a json tool where you can copy in a spreadsheet and it'll try and format it for you?

they believe he may now be in Eastern Europe.

Has anyone checked if he's on lemmy.ml?

The Flying Wing is actually my favorite GEM at the moment. It's the mildest one I own, except maybe the Damaskeene.

[–] walden 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Have you smelled Puros? It's definitely a good combo. I ended up throwing or giving away my Puros soap because it was garbage, but the aftershave isn't bad and smells great.

Really? That's an odd thing for them to change, but what do I know.

I didn't see any major bugs, and I confirmed with our auto-bot developer that that software will work with the new version, so cross your fingers.

I'm also working on a fancy uptime page which you can see here https://uptime.splettnet.com/status/wetshaving (URL subject to change).

RE: BS products from massive corporations, I'm with you for sure.

RE: soap is soap - there are lots of different types of soap. Each type of fat has differing amounts of loric acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, etc. Lard makes a soap that's a good firmness (not too soft, not too hard), not very cleansing (so it won't dry your skin out, but also won't do much hard cleaning), very conditioning, not very bubbly, but very creamy. Other fats/oils yield much different results. Soaps with a lot of coconut oil are very cleansing, so they'll dry your skin out. Your soap sounds like it could be used daily without any problems.

So, I disagree that soap is soap. Soap that's made specifically for shaving typically has a lot of added stearic acid, because no natural fats have enough natural stearic acid to produce a really stable lather that won't dissipate during the shave. Most use a lot of beef tallow, but there are also a lot of vegan options.

Share your shave of the day for Sunday!

Just had this Lather Catcher show up last night. I'm absolutely in love with it. Heljestrand's have such nice steel and I haven't met one yet I didn't love. I have no idea why, but Lather Catchers just drive me crazy. I think they're so neat.

I grabbed this from Maggards. Came with 3 Half Hollow wedge blades total. 2 should be usable, 1 is iffy but I'm going to see what I can do.

I don't think I'll polish it. I did scrub and wash it some, but I like the look it has now. I'm hoping to try and get one of the blades honed tonight.

Share your shave of the day!

Spearhead Shaving Company is holding a raffle in support of music education in their community. The prize is a Roman Spice soap, aftershave, and EdT.

I'm not affiliated with Spearhead, and if you buy any entries you decrease my chances of winning. That alone should make you want to buy some.

I've seen them called "Stop Lines", "Balk Line", etc. The thick line painted on the road at a Stop Sign.

You're supposed to stop before the line, but a lot of the time there's a bush or other obstruction so you can't see any crossing traffic. You have to creep forward until you can see anything.

Is there a reason for this? Is it done on purpose? It makes sense if there's a crosswalk or something, but I see it a lot where there shouldn't be any pedestrian activity.

I recently came into possession of an Ever-Ready Jewel "Streamline". Streamline has become the vernacular in referencing various razors that are all, admittedly, exactly the same.

The only difference you'll find is between Gen 1 and Gen 2.

Thanks to Cbubs (the man behind Catie's Bubbles), I was made aware of an old reddit post by the late 120inna55. I decided his post was worthy of being preserved on another platform, and our wiki fit the bill.

I made some formatting changes and made the pictures appear in line so you don't have to click over to imgur.com. Cool!

I hope you enjoy! If you have any other ideas for the wiki, please let me know -- or make your own account and get to work!

https://wiki.wetshaving.social/Curated_Articles/Streamline

A couple of months ago, @EldrormR@sub.wetshaving.social loaned me some GEM razors including a beautiful Ever-Ready Streamline. His was in a plastic (or maybe bakelite?) case. "Streamline" has become the vernacular for referencing any of the various razors that look like a "Streamline". They come in various packaging, which differentiates them for collectors.

Anyway, I fell in love and started to casually keep an eye out for one. They are notoriously hard to come by, especially in the USA. Nevertheless, one fell in my lap! A nice one, too!

Specifically, the one I got is called an Ever-Ready Jewel because it comes in a metal case, and although mine doesn't have the "paperwork", these metal cases came with an insert that called it "Jewel".

Most of these have purple felt inside the case. The one I got has red felt.

New user welcome. (self.wetshaving)

Notice - Starting from RouterOS version 7.13, significant changes have been made to the RouterOS wireless packages. This is done due to a new product development which will require more disk space for hardware drivers so we had to split it in order to maintain old products alongside the new ones. More wireless packages are yet to come.

  1. When upgrading by using "check-for-updates", all versions earlier than 7.12 will display 7.12 as the latest available version. Upgrade from v7.12 to v7.13 or later versions must be done through 7.12 in order to convert wireless packages automatically. Fresh installation with Netinstall or manual package installation works in the same manner as always.

  2. Drivers for older wireless and 60GHz interfaces, as well as the wireless management system CAPsMAN, are now part of a separate "wireless" package instead of being a part of the bundle package. This package can be uninstalled if not needed.

  3. The existing "wifiwave2" package has been divided into distinct packages: "wifi-qcom" and "wifi-qcom-ac", and the necessary utilities for WiFi management are now included in the RouterOS bundle. RouterOS and "wifi-qcom-ac" packages alongside each other now fit into 16MB flash memory.

What's new in 7.13.5 (2024-Feb-16 19:35):

*) bridge - fixed MLAG connection after peer-link flap (introduced in v7.13);
*) bridge - fixed packet forwarding after changing HW offloaded bridge interface settings in certain cases (introduced in v7.13);
*) dns - do not close connection with DoH server after query execution (introduced in v7.13.3);
*) leds - fixed modem signal strength for RBSXTR&R11e-LTE (introduced in v7.13);
*) sms - increased SMS read timeout;
*) wifi-qcom - improved memory allocating process;
*) wifi-qcom - improved regulatory compliance for L11, L22 devices;
*) wifi-qcom - improved system stability for L11, L22 devices;
