Announcement from the RTX Remix Discord:

Hey folks,

Today’s the big day–RTX Remix is finally out in Open Beta for everyone to try. Read about it here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-remix-open-beta-half-life-2-rtx-trailer/ (PLEASE NOTE THIS ARTICLE UPDATES AT 8 AM PST)

Until now, this community has been creating with only the alpha version of the RTX Remix runtime, which we released in Open Source back in April: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-remix-runtime-open-source-download/

In 9 months since, you’ve brought path tracing to over a hundred games, many we never imagined could be compatible, and have made jaw dropping work-in-progress remasters without even having the full RTX Remix platform. With the release of the RTX Remix app, modders with a 3060 Ti (and above) have a much easier solution for viewing their captures, easily populating their mods with high fidelity PBR assets, new lighting, and even upscaled/PBR textures created with RTX Remix’s AI Texture Tools. This is going to accelerate RTX Remix modding, and we hope, change the landscape for graphical mods.

Not only is RTX Remix releasing today, but ModDB is launching their community support resources as well: https://www.moddb.com/rtx.

Read about it here: https://www.moddb.com/news/rtx-remix-on-moddb.

With ModDB, modders will be able to: See what games are compatible, and which version of the RTX Remix Runtime they were last tested with Download RTX.conf config files and captures that will help get started with your mod Upload RTX Mods that will be easy to discover throughout ModDB’s pages Upload mods that are up to 50GBs in size Upload PBR Assets to a place where the entire community can download and try

These resources are a powerful tool for you, the modders. I encourage you to help keep them up to date to benefit this entire community.

We’ve also released RTX Remix Runtime version 0.4–you can read about it in the opening article, and see the full release notes here: https://github.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/rtx-remix/releases This runtime includes new features that are going to improve the look of your mods (Subsurface Scattering, Parallax Occlusion Mapping), as well as some fixes that have implications for compatibility (improved anti-culling of lights, a terrain baking system).

Finally, I ask everyone here to be supportive to newcomers discovering this Discord. There are going to be a lot of people who have never set up a game with RTX Remix. Based on my experience in this community, I have no doubts you will.

I’ll end this post by recapping some of the resources you have available to you for beginning your RTX Remix journey: RTX Remix Documentation: https://docs.omniverse.nvidia.com/kit/docs/rtx_remix/latest/index.html RTX Remix Tutorial Videos: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4w6jm6S2lzvgJ97T1_VbLGBR_l6zzOUm&si=T2ReZboShPbDnd1H ModDB RTX Remix Resources: https://www.moddb.com/rtx RTX Remix FAQ (bottom of the article): https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/rtx-remix-open-beta-half-life-2-rtx-trailer/ Report Issues for Runtime, Toolkit, and documentation on the GitHub: https://github.com/NVIDIAGameWorks/rtx-remix/issues

Happy Modding!

Really hoping Snapdragon Oryon can be the same boon for Windows/Linux that Apple's M CPUs were for Mac

At long last, "Fire and Fortune", also known as Discovery Freelancer 5.0, is ready for release. Using the word "patch" really isn't fair here, this represents by far the most comprehensive update in the mod's history - with massive overhauls of basic systems in ship mechanics, economy, the story, and many other respects, it's closer to a new game than an update.

We'd like to thank everyone who contributed on the development side of things, and of course everyone in the community who has kept this game alive by playing on the server and posting on the forums, and have kept their excitement going for all of this admittedly long wait. Many of the changes you may have already read about in the Dev Diaries released, and there will be more details coming, so stay tuned for those. Until then, we encourage you to simply the take the mod's name to heart and discover what you can yourselves.

Have fun!

I know people have gotten it to run on Steam Decks in the past. Here's a guide for running it on Linux in general, though I would assume it also applies to the Steam Deck.

Also, controller support is not a thing in Freelancer, so you have to play with KB&M

Though you might be better off asking in the discord server: https://discord.gg/FdSkbZ8

The Discovery Development team is proud to finally announce the release date for our next patch. We know it's been a long wait, and we're extremely grateful for both the anticipation and excitement the playerbase has shown, as well as your continued patience.

Discovery Freelancer: Fire and Fortune will release on September 1st. It will bring a large array of additions and changes to the game, including major balance overhauls, such as the long-awaited battlecruiser and gunboat reworks, and a much needed shake-up of the Sirius Sector's status quo through vibrant new story developments.

That's not all there is to this announcement, though. We'll be sharing some details about what to expect from the patch:
