In his Thursday decision, Circuit Judge Michael Stelzer wrote that Bailey can collect documents under Missouri’s consumer protection statute that aren’t protected under federal mandate, namely the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, better known as HIPAA.
I'm confused. Is it saying, "for records which are not protected by HIPAA, you can have the documents"? Or is it saying, "you can collect these because I'm declaring them not subject to HIPAA"?
If the former...are there any relevant records which aren't covered by HIPAA? And if so, why in the world aren't they covered by HIPAA?
And if the latter, this seems (???) like a slam dunk ACLU or similar case?

As others have said, it's a bit outdated. Being slow is one thing, but having limited software support can be very frustrating.
If possible I would try for a raspberry pi instead, as those have very strong ecosystems (yes, there are problems, but still
it's a big community). A 5 with 8GB would be ideal, but something lower spec (even a 3) would probably still be more capable.
I share via Signal, and with links to my Immich instance (sent over Signal). Certainly susceptible to security problems since yours truly set it up, but what you gonna do...

You are of course right, at least for my part of the world (high CoL USA city). Renting a 3 bedroom will run 4k for something modest (5 or 6 for something nice maybe?). Buying a 3 bedroom will run 10k or so with 20% down. Buying is definitely more expensive in the short term (long term is another story).
Only way for mortgage to be more than rent is for something purchased a while back, or for a new purchase with a large % down payment. Which absolutely happens, but sheesh, parent isn't wrong...
I think there's room for philosphical differences here though. One can acknowledge Meta being evil but not advocate for defederation.
The standard federation analogy is to that of email. Google has shown themselves to be evil at times (prone to enshitification at the very least). But if my email provider drops support for any email from gmail.com, well... that's kinda not a good thing.
Obviously ActivityPub is not email, but still, I think it's a somewhat nuanced issue.
And with regards to the EEE issue, I'm personally not convinced of any threat. Slack embraced IRC then killed support, and no harm was done that I'm aware. XMPP always gets trotted out as an example, but I think it's a weak argument at best, disingenuous at worst.

corporations are not required to maximize profits. Even if maximizing profit was mandatory, this is a pretty subjective topic
is short term profit while pissing off your customers "maximizing profit," or is sacrificing short term gains for long term customer loyalty "maximizing profit"? It's not a rhetorical question, and I think you can find examples of both.
Corporations are also not all pursuing endless growth; in addition to "growth stocks" there are "dividend stocks." Some companies aren't aggressively pursuing growth, but are making profit, and the stock reflects this. It feels almost antiquated in the "to the moon" era, but these companies do exist.
