Cause it takes up a lot of space on store shelves. It's really obvious when there's a larger demand for them.

I've been running a pair of cyberpower systems for over a decade. I had to replace the battery in each of them once, but they've been working great.

I assume newer ones use some sort of Li-Ion battery tech, but mine are just plain old Lead Acid.

That article in Signal is bogus. It is entirely based on speculation from how funding comes in, and also either ignores, or misunderstands how Signal fundamentally works.

The EFF recommends Signal, and it's one of the most secure ways to communicate.

You can make your own decisions, but if you just grab any random arguments, you'll find a reason to doubt everything.

Didn't you read the summary? They put a juvenile penny in the jar and it grew inside until mature.

There are quite a few anecdotal cases of people dying shortly after retirement, or shortly after a spouse dies. Death is complicated and sometimes people "hold on" for weird and unexplained reasons.

People in terminal condition have a habit of dying when loved ones are out of the room.

Does Jimmy Carter feel like this election is something major he needs to accomplish before he goes? Maybe. Or maybe he just keeps busy with all of his volunteer work and other philanthropy, which is keeping him around.

Maybe he's just one of the lucky ones that happens to be healthy and sharp at 100 for reasons we don't know.

Some people walk to get groceries.

edit: on the flip side, if you're trying to lose weight, then eating low density food would probably fill you up faster. So more apples and less sunflower seeds.

Interesting story. It sounds like it's tough to be part of the indigenous population, and also tough to be a woman there.

Nice to see them persevering through all of that.

I used to tape maps to the gas tank of my motorcycle on trips.

Then mapquest became useful and I taped printed directions. Made it a lot easier.

Then I got a Garmin waterproof, handlebar mounted GPS and it was glorious, though you had to buy map updates every couple years.

Eventually phones were actually able to be used for directions and I kept a phone connected to a homemade battery pack in my jacket pocket, with an earbud under my helmet, so I just listened to directions and music.

Finally got a phone connected to a handlebar mount, plugged into the bike power, with a Bluetooth headset built into the helmet. Probably the least safe of the options, but I can listen to podcasts, audiobooks, music and see the maps while it directs me with audio, just like a car display would.

That's what lethal injection is for. But they can't get legitimate doctors to perform an execution, so they have to just wing it with hacks, which is why they often get fucked up.

At least a firing squad is full of people who know how to shoot.

trump's staff stopped mentioning robinson for two days, and trump forgot all about him.

I have an indoor/outdoor thermometer to keep track of how hot the back of my Expedition gets. I drive pretty regularly with two dogs in the back, and over the summer and winter the temps can get a little extreme.

I need to be able to take it out to keep an eye on it remotely (it has about 1/4 mile range) but also have it not rolling around while I drive.

There was a coin holder there that I popped out, and used as a template for an insert to keep this mounted semi-permanently.

Printed with kinda crappy Amazon Basics PETG. If it holds up well, I'll reprint it with better quality black PETG so it matches the car better.

Extremely useful, especially for people who coordinate larger protests or online communities.

If there’s a Holy Grail on Mars, it’s probably a specific type of rock: A rock so important that it holds convincing clues to Mars’ ancient habitability.

Perseverance might have just found it.

There was an issue on Reddit a while back where people would post some hateful stuff, and of course lots of people blocked them.

After a while, anti-trans, racist, and far-right-wing stuff were only seen by non-logged in users, other bigots, or new people, and they weren't getting the downvotes they deserved.

Is this going to be a problem on Lemmy too? I'm worried that if we're all blocking shitty users that we're just hiding the problem from ourselves, not fixing it.

This was a fun project, I had to measure and figure out the iottie thread pitch and then create an adapter to go from a phone mount stand to a backplate on my wireless camera screen for a backup camera on a trailer.

Basically replicated the back plate from the original phone mount with the same tolerances and spacing.

Took 2 test prints to make sure the threads and spacing was right, then I printed it out of PETG. Seems to hold up well, but I might end up adjusting the design over time if it has a weak point.
