This has been a problem since boost's Reddit days. This was my suggested solution as well

Search only seems to search all, not by server in c/boostforlemmy@lemmy.world

Probably should leave the default on all to reduce the amount of duplicate communities. Or at least lower the chance of people needlessly joining local ones when a neighboring one is thriving.
