Probably not pure mercury but one of the extremely nasty mercury compounds that is easily absorbed through the skin. The victim was very sick.

I feel we could get a much better bang/buck ratio by shooting him down to Venus along with a sensor package. Far less expensive, and the live broadcast of his horrific demise would probably go some way to defraying costs as well.
