These hackers have fantastic values, and the effort they put into this made the world a slightly better place. Good on em.

(next on the block: Jordan Peterson's School for Very Logical Manbabies)

I'm sorry you have to work for him, and I'm doubly sorry for any women who have to work with him. He's not genuinely kind. It doesn't take an academic to see half the human population as humans deserving of the same rights as the other half.

I agree about how upsetting it's been though. My neigbour and I used to share bbq over the fence and shoot the shit about his life. Now he's got crazy eyes and legit thinks and says that my wife and I are evil witches (and whatever qanonsense his feed fed him yesterday). I miss the peace I had in my own backyard pre-2016, but here we are.

btw, a lot of effort goes into the misogynist fascist takeover of our public spaces (including online). None of this just happened because (for example, one genesis myth is) low income white boys were bored on the internet. They've been groomed for hate and it's all deliberate.

the piece's spiral shape resembles the poop emoji more than what was intended: a type of sea snail called a periwinkle.

"This was an intentional sculpture," Ford told As It Happens host Nil Köksal. "[But] spirals occur in nature, right? So it can be interpreted as another thing."

OT, but most of my students in their 20s can barely use keyboards. It really stresses them out and they get mad about it. Papers are either copy-paste then AI filtered a few times, or speech-to-text with a quick grammerly scan. Drives me bonkers too. Just to say, I'm sorry your work isn't appreciated.

"The Digital Native generation are technological geniuses because they can usually intuit which icon to click. Let us praise them and give them as much screentime as we can." - All the news pieces and academic articles from 2000-2010ish

jfc I'd forgotten that moment. Let us never forget the Bowling Green Massacre.

If Trump repeals the ACA it's Harris' fault! I'm a Democrat who was too good to vote!

Butting into your conversation to leave a wee link for any film lovers scrolling by. The NFB's a public producer and distributor, and the catalogue's free for everyone.

You need a license to use it in class or have a public showing, but you're right - many schools have that already set up. Buying DVDs for the classroom will cost you, though.

That's a nice thought on a spectacularly shit day. I hope Alt me is still BBQing with my neighbours like it's 2016.

If you do pop up north, be ready for a battle here too.

Long read, but excellent info. tl;dr - The IDU and the Manning Centre (now called the "Strong and Free Network" run the right up here.

completely alienating [non-voters] now will not help the cause

So we just keep being nice to the braindead traitors who can't be arsed to get up off the couch and vote so we all don't live in Nazi World? Because they just haven't heard the right argument yet, or they just need a wee bit more cajoling, maybe a cookie next time.

idc if it's existential malaise over the world burning up, or just that they get enough civic participation from their social media Feed. idc about their endless reasons for not showing up (I've heard them all up here in Ontario where less than 1/2 the eligible voters turned up, and they're all nonsense about how it's someone else's fault. They feel no shame about it: they've been thoroughly convinced that they're too good/smart to vote).

You keep on with not alienating the braindead lumps. You'll find them endlessly commentating online, blaming The Woman for Doing It Wrong. Because Kamala didn't personally bring them tendies they decided their country should be governed AGAIN by a White Supremacist Rapist Incontinent Felon who's owned by frothy fundies who want to burn the witch.

Every abstaining vote was a vote for Trump. They just wanted to be able to say Wasn't Me.

That, and they know none of them will see effective penalties for voter intimidation and coercion. Maybe a fine. Maybe a year in jail. Maybe both.

In a just world, these donors would get a year for every employee who took the survey. Just to serve as a deterrent to other multi-millionaire bosses. More likely they'll weasel out of anything but lawyers fees and a statement on their website.

She says Jan 6 was about "love" directly in the face of a woman whose life she previously threatened on that day. But she has to say it, because that's what the cult told her last.

"Nothing done wrong at all," Trump said.

"There were no guns down there. We didn’t have guns. The others had guns, but we didn’t have guns.

"And when I say we, these are people that walked down - this was a tiny percentage of the overall which nobody sees and nobody, nobody shows. But that was a day of love."

These individuals need deprogrammers, not debate.

On Jan. 6, 2021, an angry mob of Donald Trump supporters swarmed a CBC News crew working near Capitol Hill. Nearly four years later, reporter Katie Nicholson tracked down one of the people who surrounded her that day to find out what she’s thinking heading into another volatile U.S. presidential election.

Was worth the watch for the emotional contortions the supporter twists herself into when confronted by one of the people she threatened, her Democrat-voting husband dealing with it all, and that messed up Trump paraphernalia store.
