Hey, that's really cool! So with a VPN, I could steer this thing form anywhere! That ks for telling me.

Hi there!

I'm looking into getting myself a good printer and I am wondering if I need to install some platform-specific drivers for them to run. I am running Debian 12 (GNU/Linux) and I am afraid that I must run some proprietary blob to connect to the printer.

Could someone share their experience please? Even if you don't use Linux, your feedback would be very appreciated!

(Also, while you are at it, please share some recommendations for printers, I don't really know where to go (>v<) Have about +-500€ )

This feels less like an LBGTQIA+ flag, and for of a ti+ flag (as in trans-inter and some others too ig)

But yes, symmetry is nice

EDIT: I kinda forgot to actually mention my problem. When booting nornall, I get stuck at a lonely white blinking cursor on a black screen, so startx seems to make some problems. I enter a TTY and run startx and this is what I get when running startx:

output of startx

SOLUTION

  • Uninstall your current nvidia driver (for example using sudo apt remove nvidia-driver on Debian)
  • Install the headers for your kernel. your kernel you can check rather easily by running neofetch
  • Install the headers required for your kernel. Do that by listing all packages with your kernel name in it. For example like this: apt list *6.9.7+bpo*
  • reboot, install your nvidia driver again and rovoot again. Should be done.

I'm attempting to make a lil Vivian character over here. Here is the link if someone is interested.

(I hope this kind of post is allowed on this community)

Currently the elbows are pointing in vaguely the right direction but they are somewhat off. I have checked that they have the right target bone selected. I have a feeling that this is due to some of the rotations of the bones in edit mode... Can someone help me with this?

The autocompletion works (mostly) but for example Vec::new() doesn't highlight anything at all. I do get errors when not putting a semicolon, but things like passing too many arguments into the println macro doesn't throw an error. Or how shown in this example, it did not autocomplete the clone method, while also just accepting .clo; at the end of a String (it also didn't autocomplete "String"). In the video I show how it also gives me a recommendation for setting vec![] as a type, which doesn't make any sense. It only seems to a very limited selection of methods and some words I already used in the script. Is this how it's supposed to be, or do I have some very old version perhaps?

EDIT: Look in description for the fix

Hii cuties! I am currently going through quite the amount of evil disgusting and bad dysphoria, so I would really like to distract myself from myself right now... Even though I am not a fan of consumerism, this is the one time I feel it is appropriate to consume some media. I do have a homebrewed switch and a computer running Debian (with wine, so it can run windows games). I am a fan of rhythm games and cozy games like stardew valley (not a shooter kind of person).

EDIT: I am also a huge fan of games like outer wilds, cuz like wow that game is good. Also I like the magical parts of Terraria aaaaand floating islands are cool... Also I do have a VR headset. There, my infodump is completed now.

Issue with Valve Index (lemmy.blahaj.zone)
submitted 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) by Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone to c/linux@lemmy.ml

I got myself a valve index, as I've heard that it works well on GNU/Linux (I use Debain 12 with GNOME). Turns out, there were a bunch of hurtles. At first, my cable was just broken, so I needed to get that relaced. Later on when I got the cable, Everything worked fine, but nothinig is being displayed in the headset. The screen is just off and the frightening red lights on the front are lit. Every time I run steamVR, it doesn't give me any errors, but after about 20 seconds of waiting, these two LEDs turn from blue to red. The eye adjustment slider and even the tracking works perfeclty, as I can see the rendered image in the "VR view":

I also get this warning in the console before the lights turn red:

(vrwebhelper:3686): dbind-WARNING **: 15:09:07.618: Couldn't connect to accessibility bus: Failed to connect to socket /run/user/1000/at-spi/bus_1: No such file or directory

The lights turn blue again when restarting SteamVR. Has anyone experienced anything like this before?

I also get this error sometimes, even though the display is very much plugged in:

In case it matters, here is the entire console output up from running steamVR:

EDIT: Here is some other important info on my system:

  • Running the X version of GNOME
  • GTX 1060 6GB

Is there a good way to roll back the nvidia driver to an older version? I need 470 for my vr headset, as newer versions seem to disable video output to the headset. I have tried some logical stuff like sudo apt remove --purge nvidia-driver and also some more radical stuff like sudo apt remove --purge "^nvidia-*" but that somehow left all my drivers intact, and I am still on the newest version 525.147.05. Does someone know on how step back?

When installing the proprietary nvidia driver recommended by the the official debian page for Debian Bookwork, apt seems to want to install a new kernel. I actually did this before (since this is my second time installing debian on here) and this new kernel messes with the display server somehow, disabeling all monitors but one, limiting the resolution, removing all the UI animations and so on. So I don't want to do that again. My current kernel is the Debain 12 default: linux-image-6.1.0-18-amd64. Am I doing something terribly wrong, is the website perhaps outdated, or what is going on here?

Hi. In my current situation I feel really held back by essentially everything...

I (18) am a (currently) masculine presenting person who, as a young man, is in a very comfortable position. My father likes me for who I am currently and my friends at school and the teachers there are the same. I am learning IT shit in that school amongst only boys. Unfortunately right now, I do not have female friends irl. I still have contact with some older female friends digitally, and we are doing pretty well, but that's not the same. So now let me actually get to the point.

I feel like I am too comfortable in my current position to do anything. I am accepted too well by the people around me to transition, but I would also not be okay with pulling back with the small social behaviours I have changed (I tend to talk softer and make some totally super totally hilariously funny jokes about being just too manly for this world, isn't that so fuuny!?). I already told my mother and she kinda just took it. She seems supportive, and I feel like she would be okay with me transitioning. Father is a very different story, as he not only tends to laugh at trans people in TV shows but he also refers to me very often as "my son" and envisions my future as some very handsome and very manly man.

So yeah, my current situation is so interesting to me that I talk to myself about it daily for hours at a time and always end up with something along the lines of -well I'm comfortable rn so what?- or -it is what it is-. I keep putting -staying like this-, -actually transitioning- and -pulling back completely- side by side and end up deciding that clearly transitioning is the best option, as I fell awful with myself currently, but also apffff, as if! As if I would want to become a girl! Look at me! I actually am rather handsome, have a bunch of good friends, acceptable connections with father, a somewhat safe career and fairly convincing charisma, why would I want to run the risk of losing any of that? It would be insane!

This next part is about a more adult topic (one might say NSFW), so maybe skip it if you don't feel comfy: ################## For the longest time in my life I was unable to jerk off. I simply couldn't, I'm guessing my thing is just weirdly randomly generated. Even my urologist said "haha, oh well, that looks like quite the surprise package to me". About 3 months ago I found a different method to even do it, but it feels TERRIBLE! How can people be happy with this? I feel terrible before I do it, I feel terrible when I notice the urge, I feel oh so very awful after doing it, having to clean up the most disgusting part of my body and sometimes crying afterwards, knowing that I'll have to do it again to make these ball of mine happy. I am incredibly dysphoric about that part, but I try to distance that very far away from the topic I actually want to adress with this post, even though I know very well that T-Blockers would recude horniness and that it would make me feel better and that I wouldn't have to do the disgusting deed every three days. I have no idea on if this is connected to wanting to be a girl or if this is some other thing (I might be asexual, but really not sure...)

I am currently running Debian 12 with Gnome using the 6.6.9-amd64 kernel, and have had quite the issues with the newer kernels. Once i switch to them in the grub menu, I am only able to use a single monitor which has been set to a sub-normal resolution. Also animations for the DE are all gone. I can't add my other monitors in, my nvidia settings panel lost most of its settings (from about 20 tabs to 3) and the entire system runs really poorly. While part of this seems to be an nvidia thing, I do wonder how I would actually go about fixing this.
