Then they can just get it repaired, at a shop that has the flasher to re-flash the device. Cuz it's open source

Buy money :-) Do exchange counters, like the ones in airports, let you buy cash with bank accounts? I imagine they accept credit cards at least.

Only when they get to the end of life of the cells. If there's another failure before that, it's likely a full failure.

Absolutely recommend it to others. It's much safer than reusing passwords, which is what inevitably happens if you don't use one. I use Bitwarden, but KeePass is also good if you want to avoid the cloud. Or you can use a paper notebook, but that's less convenient.
