Well, true for some words. OP checking out how to spell “consistently” and me trying to figure out effect/affect for a specific case…. Probably less so.

Yeah, it’s advertising. They want to be able to sell you clothes you’ll probably actually wear, video games you’ll actually play, etc. They probably don’t care about your google spell checks as much as they care about what posts you’re liking on your Instagram reels.

On one hand, it sucks to not really have that privacy. On the other hand, people act like if you don’t use a VPN for every single online service today that in 5 years data brokers will sell your exact address to the Islamic Jihad for ten dollars.

I’m going to hand it to them, it’s impressive that the right has managed to market the left as being this “identity politics” party, while the rights focus has been almost exclusively pertaining to “identity politics” over the past 6 years.

It really feels like they have nothing to go on, but that’s fine because the average American largely votes based on what minority they’re grossed out the most by

You haven’t said ‘at first’ at any point in talking to me.

Yeah I’m not sure how much of an ethical stand that is if all the content is still imported from “big tech”.

It’s like starting a farming commune but then still buying everything from Walmart

No, but it’s not really indicative of a healthy, long lasting website if essentially all of its posts are just coming from other websites. Why would anyone come here if they could just go on twitter or Reddit or wherever else and see the content directly?

Yeah, it’s interesting what lives and what doesn’t. Star Trek stuff…? Still big on the website. LOTR stuff? Basically a dead corpse.

I really wonder how long Lemmy will really last. It really feels like a website sustained by like 5 dudes mostly reposting content, with any actual discussion becoming increasingly circlejerk-y as time goes on.

Not a ton because my app crashes every time I use the search function. I get what the lord gives me

[–] Minotaur@lemm.ee 0 points 6 months ago

Yeah, it is a little silly

I think that if you went to a psychologist they could diagnose you with a legitimate preoccupation with this kind of thing

I think you’ve been thinking about this kind of thing for far too long

Just figured I’d share. Regardless of if you’re a big monkey island fan or not (and you should be, in my biased opinion) you’ve almost definitely played games made by people inspired by it. Good video!

There's no one in this community yet other than me, but I just figured I'd write a short little post just to start things off.

As a big Sierra fan, especially of the Gabriel Knight (and Quest for Glory Games), I only recently found out that two novelizations were made of the Gabriel Knight series! And well, I also like to read, so I briskly read through them.

The books are Sins of the Father and The Beast within, the first two games respectively. And they're... pretty good! They're essentially a beat for beat telling of the games, with only very occasional detours to say whats on Gabriel's mind, or maybe provide just a little more context and logic to make a video game mechanic make more sense in a written narrative. If you've played the games they're also incredibly fast reads - being basic in their prose and easy to visualize from the game.

Anyway. They are a bit hard to find these days. Sins of the Father goes for $20-25 on secondhand markets, and The Beast Within often has an asking price of $70! I'm guessing the vast majority of the books are largely just seen as pulpy fiction stories to the vast majority of people, so I can imagine that they're quick to get binned and otherwise neglected.

You can still read them online quite easily, and it's well worth it if you're a fan. Might be a good replacement of replaying the games!

I only wish they had made the third game into a book - seeing that it's nearly impossible to run and experience first hand these days.

Let me know if you've read or heard of them!
