Lemmy

Honestly for lemmy as a whole more content more better. I tend to leave them and get around to responding when I have the time.
Sometimes it gets overwhelming though. I'm an introvert, I like being low-key. I freak out when a post goes crazy. Especially like this morning where I posted a throwaway thought and everyone was super passionate in their opposition.
I know being bullied online doesn't feel good but u gotta just ignore the shit people say. They are engaging in bad faith if they are being cunts if its legitimate criticism then its food for thought. U mind sharing the post so i can see?
Ohh shit I commented on that post. Yeah I too was surprised by peoples extremety. https://lemm.ee/comment/11943234
I’ll be real this is a “if you can’t take the heat stay out of the kitchen” kinda thing
Heat is fine. But that's like saying you have to lose your car every time your restaurant has a fire.
That’s… actually a pretty good analogy. I see your point, especially since the ability to mute a thread doesn’t subtract from anybody else’s experience
@TexMexBazooka @sabreW4K3 I know you mean well, but it's ableist and exclusionary to say that we should not be using social media if we can't "handle the heat." Notifications can ruin my sleep or keep me from focusing on my work. We probably agree that it would be nice to engage with our audiences on our own terms - so I don't understand where the dismissiveness comes from.
So I have a two part reply to this-
- If notifications cause you that much distress, social media will be inherently damaging to your mental health. At that point, it makes sense to mute notifications for apps entirely.
however
- Being able to mute a thread is not something that would subtract from anybody else’s experience, and can only add to people’s who use it.
So overall, I think this is a good idea
