Would love to see this used in future headlines. "Most moral army in the world kills civilians hiding in a church" or "Most moral army in the world bombs refugee camp" or maybe most poignantly, "Most moral army in the world convicted of genocide"

[–] TigrisMorte@kbin.social 68 points 10 months ago (1 children)

“Most moral army in the world kills white flag waving hostages they were purported to be rescuing”

[–] Sumpfkraut@kbin.social 14 points 10 months ago

"Most moral army in the world fires rocket artillery at journalists in a neighboring country for the crime of using a tripod."

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (3 children)

Unfortunately the ICJ has no enforcement mechanism. The upshot is that the ICC does, and they're investigating the conflict as well.

[–] OccamsTeapot@lemmy.world 16 points 10 months ago

Main benefit is putting pressure on allies, especially the US, to stop sending weapons etc. Israel might not give a fuck but the US does. I think that's why Israel is worried about the whole thing.

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Canada's PM Trudeau says that they will abide by the ruling of the ICJ case. Before they didn't want to get the side-eye from big bro US so they mostly want along with their anti-violence but unconditionally pro-Israel stance until recently.

The ICC is also not a UN body and, notably, lacks the membership of the most powerful geopolitical players (the USA, China, Russia, India) as well as much of Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

It's useless.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 98 points 10 months ago (2 children)

If you've been called before a Genocide hearing, you don't have a moral army. Full stop.

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 59 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Referring to any group of people who's job it is to kill other groups of people as "moral" seems like a bit of an oxymoron to me. I get that the scale can tip really fucking far to the evil side but how close to the good side is it even possible to get?

[–] EmpathicVagrant@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I’m genuinely not trying to be rude with this:

referring to any group of people who’s job it is . . .

Whose* job it is

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

Macaroni inventor

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I see nothing immoral in having an army to defend your country if invaded

[–] ComradeKhoumrag@infosec.pub 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but Israel is a colony, so they kind of are the occupiers

Sorry if I came off ~~cunty~~ tendentious, I work in defense fwiw I just have a lotta hot takes

[–] jettrscga@lemmy.world 20 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Maybe they were "just following orders".

[–] Chariotwheel@kbin.social 16 points 10 months ago

Given the soldiers that killed unarmed hostages against the order of their field commander they're not even doing that.

[–] zik@lemmy.world 51 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Tell that to the hundreds of thousands of Gazans who are starving to death as a result of the actions of the Israeli army.

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

"Most moral army in the world?"

That doesn't even make sense. Just going full trumpian, not only am I not guilty of what you accuse me off, I am the most opposite of that in the entire world. It's about as believable for them as it is when Trump says it. What on earth is their strategy here? I mean rhetorical question I guess, strategy is just spewing BS it seems.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 18 points 10 months ago

Pretty stirring indication it's a fascist/authoritarian state...

[–] jaybone@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

Maybe people have seen what all this fake news bullshit has done. Now you can just tell any lie you want, and anyone who says otherwise is fake or a lie.

[–] Xavienth@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 10 months ago

Sure it does when you believe you literally have the backing of god

[–] Tremble@sh.itjust.works 34 points 10 months ago

Most moral army in the world slaughters human shields. More at 11

[–] SpicyLizards@reddthat.com 21 points 10 months ago

I think they meant morel, like the mushroom. That makes more sense

[–] Uvine_Umbra@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 10 months ago (2 children)

The most moral army in the world? Top 3 are for sure Kiwi, Costa Rican, & Swiss

Israeli wouldn't even be in the top 150 lmao

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Swiss are too busy laundering money for despots and criminals to commit war crimes

[–] agitatedpotato@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Switzerland: "You better hope we send our army at you instead of our banks"

[–] FriendBesto@lemmy.ml 12 points 10 months ago

Ha, nice. I see what you did there.

For others in case they do not know:

Something tells me the most moral army in the world wouldn't be part of a genocide hearing.

[–] ivanafterall@kbin.social 16 points 10 months ago

Damn, I guess this was all just a big misunderstanding.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 15 points 10 months ago

Most moral army before and during the war for real. If morals were child murder.

[–] Crikeste@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago

The most moral army in the world? They use the Hannibal protocols, which say to kill hostages so long as you kill your enemy.

They are blood thirsty monsters.
