I must be dumb because I look at every single one of these and I haven't seen one that is even slightly funny
The Far Side
Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Its surrealistic humor is often based on uncomfortable social situations, improbable events, an anthropomorphic view of the world, logical fallacies, impending bizarre disasters, (often twisted) references to proverbs, or the search for meaning in life… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Far_Side

It’s boomer humor, but without the hate
The entire joke is that the boxes should have washed up before the stranded person died
I remember these being pretty funny as a kid which explains the lead addled mental state of Gary’s audience at the time
Irony is dead!
Tf are you talking about? I'm 40 and grew up with these with younger kids doing the same well into our childhoods.
Maybe the joke is the time between ordering and delivery? I don't really get it
Nah, just raw irony.
This one is kind of sad!
Kind of a dark one for today.
Isn't it ironic, don't you think?
Or to the educated, coincidental.
Sadly unironic that the ghost writer (Max Martin, probably) for the song used the word incorrectly.
Is the joke that they got there too late..?
Yup
Yeah, I’m kind of seeing it as three different options. The first is that whatever they were traveling on that crashed had these things, the other’s like you said - it was sent with arrive too late, or #3 they’re dumb and didn’t notice that all the boxes floating around were exactly what they need. Very unclear
Everything appears to be drifting towards him.
I think the joke is that the guy is unbelievably cartoonishly lucky that all those things are floating too him on a deserted island all at once, put in juxtaposition with the one element of bad luck (that he's already long dead).
The second one seems most likely as there are indications that the boxes are only just arriving. Also there is an old meme about sending away for items delivered from Acme, like the coyote in Road Runner cartoons.
like everything it's all in the timing
Should have opted for Amazon Prime. 😛
nowadays that's with prime!
Still no gas. Should be a sailboat kit.
Box says gas included. Gary thinks of everything
Oh gee... Underwater.
Maybe the gas is in a sealed container and for good measure is located in the top part of the box.
Wait, are we arguing about a 35 year-old unfunny comic? Here we are
To be fair, it was funny to me 35 years ago. I guess I still look at them for nostalgia. I had shirts with prints of the comics! "Pigeon: Poopus Monumentous" was my favorite.
Fair enough!
He even thought of going underground as soon as technology developed, kinda like the Unabomber.

A bit depressing for a comedy comic...
