Images, links, or videos must include additional text that summarizes the topic.

Use [First Impressions] in the title if your experience with the product is limited.
Use the [Review] in the title if you can provide comprehensive details with enough familiarity to answer follow-up questions.
Disclose how the product being reviewed was acquired (e.g., PIF, loan, or purchase). If the product was provided to you directly by the maker or vendor free of charge or at a discount, you must disclose this fact even if the item will later be returned to the maker or vendor.

Rule 4 - Advertising

Vendors are to keep marketing within the biweekly Deals/New Products threads.
Non-vendors may post topics about products if it will foster a compelling discussion.
Do not solicit donations or share fundraisers without mod approval.

All NSFW/L content must request mod approval and be flaired appropriately.

yet another Update

It seems like 0.19.0 breaks federation with other instances. Federation is arguably the most important part of Lemmy, allowing users from other instances to post, comment, vote, etc. on our instance. Until that's figured out, we'll probably hold off on updating.

Until then, this post still serves as a sort of educational one: mainly to familiarize anyone who reads this with the fact that you'll be logged out and will likely have to clear your app cache if you use one.

In case you missed it over at !ws_server_announce@sub.wetshaving.social, the Lemmy developers have released v0.19.0.

TL;DR: We haven't updated yet. Make sure you have the latest version of your favorite mobile app. When we update you'll be logged out.

This instance has not been updated yet, because we want to give you a little bit of a heads up.

There are a lot of changes, most notably having to do with logging in:

A normal user will notice one or two things:

You'll be logged out in your browser.
You'll be logged out of your app.
If you have 2FA (2-Factor Authentication) set up, it'll be disabled and you'll have to set it up again.

There are lots of little changes which you can read about here if you're interested. Overall the update has been very well received by other instances!

Another concern we had was with mobile apps. Unless they've been updated, they won't work with v0.19.0. At this point it seems like all of the available apps have been updated, so make sure you have the latest version installed on your phone.

We plan on updating soon™ and will make another post giving a heads up when the time comes.

At least one instance is having federation problems after upgrading to 0.19.0. I'll keep tabs on how that resolves for them. Other instances seem to have no problem.

Edit: I've found multiple instances are having trouble federating. Will hold off until that's sorted.

I read the release notes for V 0.19.0. Lots of changes, and I feel like the communities with a lot of members have probably already encountered any major bugs. Thanks for your work on this.

Yup, I think overall it'll go smoothly for us.

The biggest thing will be people needing to clear the cache in whatever app they use. That seems to be very common and frustrating if you don't know about it ahead of time.
