I'm new to Lemmy and have been searching the federated communities for those which I wanted to subscribe to. For some reason, this community's name renders weird on my instances search as well as the app I'm using (see image).

Is "Fantasy books, stories, &c" correct? And if so, what does "&c" stand for?

And cetera

It's a weird way of saying etc, which is an abbreviation of et cetera. Which is Latin for "and the rest", with et being "and". It's more colloquially translated as "and so forth", or "and so on", or "yada yada yada"

Etc is too long nowadays? Good god.

Yep, time really is at a premium when you need to abbreviate the abbreviations!

&c is a common variation of "etc."

Couldn't it just be called "fantasy"?

As this community has first moved advantage, it'll likely be the default fantasy hub so it might as well be kept simple.

I'm glad you asked this op, I didn't get &c either and it's been bugging me for days.

As per the sidebar, &c is the old way of saying et cetera
