For owls that are superb.

If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

WINNER: BORROWING OWL 72-27

Both of these little ones win their previous matches with ease.

Burrowing Owl is one of the tougher remaining opponents. It embodies all you love about little brown owls, but also throws in extra long legs and some of the most comical expressions of any owl out there. Those long legs bump this little guy all the way up to a massive 9 inches / 23 cm tall. Huge compared to the Flammulated Owl and the Elf Owl. Will those sprinter legs and underground skills let it slip by the competition, or is it just going to get buried?

Watch your step! Elf Owl is the tiniest owl in the world. They're 5 In / 13 cm long and weigh 1.4 oz / 40 grams. That's the length of a credit card and a little lighter than a pair of AA batteries. That's one small owl! He's got great coloring and bright white eyebrows. When he isn't out hunting bugs, he can likely be found sleeping in a giant cactus. Can this concentrated cutie take down the comedian of the owl world?

That last picture is too funny not to vote for this one, haha!

When picking pictures, I really try to keep it fair by picking ones of equal quality and what I feel is equal amounts of interesting or entertaining content. With the Burrowing Owl, it's so difficult due to the sheer number of funny pics you just won't find of any other owl. They just seem to be such an inquisitive animal and I think their being a rare owl that lives with other owls gives them a social charm other owls don't have.

That owl strikes the correct tone between "I mean business" and "love me"

It's easy to see why Burrow Owl has so many fans.

I figure if I can find a pic of an owl doing something, that means it's just part of hoo they are. If that gives them a leg up, so be it!

I want to vote for both, but that kinda defeats the purpose so the elf owl gets a comment instead.

You're allowed to do whatever makes you happy!

I'm still trying to figure out why I'm getting downvotes on nearly every post. I'm starting to get concerned I'm discounting a dyslexic person's vote. It's not like there's anything to downvote here. I dunnoooooo....

Thank you for participating though! I've been happy seeing so many new names in the comments.

Some people want to see the world burn and they only thing they have is a downvote. Keep doing what you're doing because this is great.

All I can be is me. If they don't like it, they can post their own stuff.

You guys have all been a great bunch here, that's all that matters to me.

I'm not seeing the voting comments! Aaaaaugh!

Edit: I think this is b/c my home server is kinda borked this morning; they show up on lemmy.world's web page. It's not an issue with the post.

You might also have languages set incorrectly

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

That's good! I had to put in a big report to my current app this morning for not refreshing the votes until I exited and reloaded, so I was worried my post got messed up.

Glad you got yours figured out too!
